Here is the cry, the plea, the position of repentance. Have mercy God. Please have mercy!! Notice there is no note of defense, not one shred of self-justification. There is nothing to try and say, "I have a really good excuse"... there is also nothing which says "we can work something out, just consider all of the other things I have done..." Notice also the fact that the tone of the plea ASSUMES that God is completely right to be angry; that He has the right to punish, to crush, to destroy. The cry, it's simple. Have mercy, I am weak, You are awesome, please relent and be merciful. Please save me so that You will be glorified because of that great mercy. Beloved, our pride rises up at the suggestion that we are not completely right. We delight in our freedom to do whatever we want, but never stop to consider that maybe we shouldn't do that thing, then when we find that we don't like what we got, we try to justify our actions. The real fact of our existence is this... God is always right, His judgements are always righteous, His will is always perfect, and His rule is always total. Don't try and bargain or negotiate for a better deal. Mercy is what He offers, and mercy is what we need. We need mercy, we must have MERCY !!!
