Time to Radiate - Jim Scudder, Jr.

Today's Scripture: I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and what thou seest write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches... Revelation 1:10-11a

Picture seven golden candlesticks gleaming and radiating their light through the darkness. The gold of the candlesticks is a pure, costly treasure, and the light from their flame is bright. Now imagine seven shining stars held in the right hand of God amidst the glow of the seven candlesticks. Isn’t that a beautiful image? It is the image Christ intended for us as His holy church. In Revelation 1:13-20, the seven candlesticks represent the seven churches and the seven stars represent the angels, pastors of the seven churches.

Each age is represented by one of these churches from Revelation chapter one. I believe we are in the age of the last church, Laodicea, in which the church has succumbed to imitating the world. Rather than being precious, pure, and shining bright for the world to see, we display moral and financial indiscretions that are a detriment to the cause of Christ. The church needs to be a light shining forth the holiness and purity of God. How are we going to radiate that light to the world if we cannot even come to church prepared to learn and worship?

On the Lord’s day, we need to be in the spirit, prepared to worship God fully. We need to be in the right frame of mind to pray, sing, and hear God’s Word, allowing the Lord to penetrate into the deepest crevice of our lives. Our preparation happens Saturday night by getting enough rest, on Friday and Thursday by putting down our devices and spending time with the Lord, on Wednesday by showing God’s love to our families, on Tuesday by reading Scripture and praying, and on Monday by sharing Christ.

There are actions we can take every day of the week to prepare us for Sunday. Being in the spirit on the Lord’s day is a lifestyle. Purpose to be prepared so that you can radiate Christ’s light to a world in darkness.
