The Pharisees and the other religious leaders knew what was going on. Oh, how they hated Jesus! Their plan was to deal with Him as soon as the Passover was finished, and all the crowds had left. They wanted to do it in secret and not make it a big public spectacle.

However, God had a bigger plan. Jesus was the Passover Lamb, and it had to happen then. So, God forced their hand to do something at Passover. They tried to do it before Passover to get it over quickly and solve the problem He was creating. They were very upset that He was accepting the praise and the hosannas as He came in. They wanted Jesus to rebuke His disciples, but we see Jesus’ response in verse 40 of our Scripture passage.

In other words, if these people were not proclaiming Him as the Messiah, the stones would immediately cry out. This was the Creator. He was coming in not just to redeem us, but to redeem creation. The Bible says creation is groaning, waiting for its redemption.

Have you ever considered that rocks could speak? That the rocks had the ability to record and play back at the command of the Creator? It could happen. He has that power and ability, and if the people had been silent, the very stones would have cried out. Why? Because He is the Creator and He deserves praise. If we are not going to do it, someone else will. If someone else won’t, the very rocks will. Don’t let the rocks get that wonderful advantage; give God the glory. Let us give Him our praise.
