but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever…
Secret things. There are things that we do not know and things that we cannot know. There are things that only God can know and does know. He knows all things. We are finite; God is infinite. We are created; He is the Creator. We are the clay; He is the Potter. We have questions that we cannot answer. There are mysteries that we cannot solve, vast oceans of knowledge that we cannot breach, understandings that we simply cannot fathom. When we bump into these arenas of knowledge that are shut tight and barred from our reach, we simply rest in the peace that there are no secrets held from God. He is all-knowing, and He is kind and wise and good. He never reaches at point at which He wonders. We often do. Why did this happen? How can something good come from this? When we face the secret things, we face a time for faith.
Revealed things. It is not as if God has left us totally in the dark. In fact, He has revealed all that we need to know for life and salvation. His creation declares His glory (Psalm 19:1) and His Word declares who He is, who we are, and how we can be reconciled to Him (2 Tim 3:15). Even more, the Word of God is our counsel for how to live life and how to face the issues of life (Psalm 73:24). We know what we know because God in His grace has revealed these things to us! God created us with the capacity to discover and research and learn, and He gave us His Word to enlighten us as to the reality of things eternal and spiritual.
For the secret things, we trust in Him. For the revealed things, we rejoice and give Him praise!
