“Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle.” (Hebrews 8:5)
God gave Moses the pattern of the tabernacle as a type of heavenly things. It was made up of three parts: the outer court where the priest would meet the worshippers and take the sacrifices that were brought for an atonement (covering) for their sins. Inside the tabernacle were two chambers, the holy place and the most holy place. What is certain is that only the priests could enter the holy place daily and in the most holy place only once a year on the day of atonement. A veil separated the two chambers. As a type of heaven, it represented the very holy presence of God, into which only the approved high priest could enter with the blood of the sacrificed animal on behalf of the people.
To listen to most people’s view of heaven today, they think that it is a place where any and all can expect to be found there, mingling with friends and family, and much of it simply a more perfect world like they enjoyed while on earth, only now without all the encumbrances of this life. Heaven is represented as an open house for all, rather than as the earthly tabernacle typified, where only the high priest could enter and that not without the blood shed of the sacrifice. However, every part of God's earthly house was a fitting emblem of all that pertains to Christ, His sufferings unto death (both as High Priest and the Sacrifice) and the glory that should follow, both for Him and for those whom He paid the debt. That is why God charged Moses that, in all respects, he was to follow the pattern which had been shown him in the mount, Exodus 25:40.
The LORD Jesus is the True Tabernacle. John 1:14tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelt, or tabernacled, among us. When the LORD Jesus came as the God-Man, He tabernacled among us. The LORD Jesus spoke about the Temple of His body, John 2:19-21, and Paul taught that because we are united to Him as the risen Christ, that we are the Temple of the Living God, 2 Cor. 6:16.
The LORD Jesus’ body was the veil ripped in two, through Whom now is the New and Living Way opened for sinners that He redeemed, and the Father justified,“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh…” (Heb. 10:19-20)
The LORD Jesus is the Great High Priest over the House of God(His elect people from every tribe, nation, and tongue),“And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” (Heb. 10:21-22)
The LORD Jesus is the full and final sacrifice,“Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God, for by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”(Heb. 10:10 ,12, 14)
The Glory of Heaven is not ‘what’ but WHO! Christ said to the thief on the cross, “…Today shalt thou be with ME in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)HE is the only HOPE and GLORY of heaven for sinners He has redeemed.
