Introduction to "The Lord's Prayer, Part 5" by Pastor Richard Warmack

As we come to the next part of THE LORD'S PRAYER, I would remind you to keep in mind that Christ is praying this prayer TO THE FATHER, but He prayed it in the audience of and spoke in an audible voice so that His apostles could actually HEAR this unbelievable prayer of worship between His Father and THEIR FATHER. Them getting to hear these words brings back to my mind the words Christ declared in Jn.14:25-29 - "These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe." He told His Apostles, as well as all His children in every generation: "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me."(Jn.15:18-21) He told these men who were hearing this prayer: "They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service."(Jn.16:2) If Christ's words in this prayer bring such comfort and encouragement to God's redeemed over 2000 years after Christ spoke them, imagine what they meant to these men who actually experienced the horror of being put out of the synagogues and being killed over the Gospel. At that time, they NEEDED THE WORDS of Christ more than ever, and Christ had promised them the Holy Spirit would "bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I said unto you". We see in the words Christ so lovingly prayed in their presence the reality of Christ's everlasting and unchangeable love for His own - "Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end."(Jn.13:1)
