The Infinite Goodness of God - Jim Scudder Jr.

Today's Scripture: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17

Some day the silver cord will break,
And I no more as now shall sing;
But, O the joy when I shall wake
Within the palace of the King!

And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story, saved by grace:
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story, saved by grace

This famous hymn was penned by Frances J. Crosby in 1891. Despite being blind from shortly after birth, Fanny Crosby penned over 8,000 hymns and gospel songs. She could not see with earthly eyes, but knew that the moment she stepped into Heaven, she would recognize her Savior.

The infinite goodness of God shows the folly of trying to talk back to or criticize God. We owe everything we have in the world to Him. Our very existence, our power to see, hear, taste, and breathe all come from a God Who is infinitely good. Even if you were deaf and mute, you could still eat and enjoy food. Even in hardship, we can find reasons to bless God and give Him glory.

The poorest and most suffering among us has everything to be thankful for. God, instead of dealing with us as we deserve, has given us his own Son to die in our place. The eternal God allowed Himself to be nailed to a rugged cross for you and me; yet some will enter into arguments with Him.

Today, thank God for what you have rather than complain to him about what you don’t have.

Devotional by Jim Scudder Jr.
