We deal with a tremendous sin...as it is devastating and can light on the fire of hell and destroy lives and reputations. We expect the lie in the world, but we too fight the violation of this commandment and find so often the case even among us. The lie is a matter of our carnal flesh as well and how does our mouths bring forth praise and sin? We are to speak the truth with God and the neighbor (positively.)
The gift of speech is wonderful as it belongs to us in fellowship with God above the rest of creation and to fellowship with one another in the midst of this world. The speech of our Lord Jesus Christ is in us (as a testimony that speaks to us in the Word made flesh..the speech of God!) Speech belongs to our prophetic office. We are touched and our speech changes as we are now able to speak the truth in Christ, in love......
But, we are partakers of this sin as we are still in the flesh. You don't have to look very far to see the lie prevalent today. The greater the gift given of God, the greater the ferociousness when the gift is used in the wrong way. "Bear no false witness against thy neighbor!" Don't rest on one's words, twisting, facial recognition that shows our disgust, a back bitter or slanderer (as the devil is,) an out and out lie or even using the TRUTH in a fashion geared at destroying the neighbor or promoting them. Condemning men rashly before we hear the whole story, quickly judging and coming to a conclusion in our verdict that destroys and breaks apart. Spreading the lie and gossip before even talking to the person about whom we are gossiping about! "These things ought not to be!" Having the unction of the Holy One we are called to speak the truth IN LOVE! The tongue is a member of the body and it too can be controlled. (Let not sin be in your bodies and yield your members to unrighteousness for sin shall no longer have dominion over you.) The greatest violation of this is found in the church and not the world. The church world at large suppresses the very truth that God has spoken of Himself in His word!!! And in our lives (to confess God as He has revealed Himself) we must stand on that truth and also in relation to one another as we stand as a prophet of God, speaking the truth in love. We follow Matthew 18 ALWAYS and foster fellowship. Not keeping our mouths shut, but doing it in love!
If you live the lie you can expect God to come down on you personally as God always loves the truth. If we lie it will tear us apart collectively, but in love it will grow our fellowship and deepen in!
Let us be sanctified and Holy and speak the truth of God and of one another. Then, and then only will we see the blessing of Jehovah God among us!
