Congratulations to Don and Maggie Martin (and grandparents Gene and Amy Patterson) on the birth of a daughter Annie Magnolia. We pray God’s mercies on our new baby.

THE WORD REVEALS CHRIST

The Word of God is written for one purpose: to reveal Christ the Savior. The Bible is not a science book so it does not tell us the science and biology of the universe. The Bible tells us of Christ the ruler of the universe. The Bible is not a history book so it does not tell us how or when dinosaurs became extinct. The Bible tells us of Christ, whom to know is life eternal. No matter how hard you search the Bible you will never find the answers to scientific or historical questions about creation. But if you search the scriptures diligently, you will find Christ the Savior of sinners. That is the sole purpose of the scriptures.

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” (John 5:39)

Spirit of God does not teach us the Gospel in the natural man because “the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God.” It is in the new spirit that God teaches us the Gospel. Those born of God “have received, the Spirit which is of God that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” (1 Cor. 2:12, 14)

Pastor Clay Curtis

The Meaning of Christ’s Death

Hebrews 9:12

Just what did the Son of God accomplish by his death upon the cursed tree? How did he obtain eternal redemption for us by the sacrifice of himself? The Word of God speaks about the death of Christ in these four distinct ways.

  1. He made a substitutionary sacrifice for his elect, dying in our room and stead (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  2. He made propitiation for our sins, satisfied the justice of God for every sinner for whom he died (Romans 3:23-26).
  3. He redeemed (delivered) us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13).
  4. He effectually secured the everlasting salvation (the blessing of Abraham, the gift of the Spirit) for his ransomed ones (Galatians 3:14).

Pastor Don Fortner

“He that is born of God doth not commit sin: for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin because he is born of God” (I John 3:9). I have heard men interpret this as the believer not practicing sin as a habit. That is a wrong and dishonest interpretation. This is referring to the new nature: the seed of Christ: that which is born of the Spirit of God. It cannot sin; it lacks the ability to sin. Does God have the ability or even the potential to sin? No! Can that which is born of God sin? No! Holiness cannot become corrupt. While the old man remains sinful and will plague us until we die, the new man does not commit sin! I will not be more holy in heaven than I am right now! There are not degrees of holiness. In heaven, I will no longer have this sinful nature I carry around with me. This gives us some awareness of how heavy the flesh is to us, but thank God it will be left in the grave when we are resurrected in His image.

Pastor Todd Nibert
