Reflections While Reading--Faithfulness and Rejoicing

Today, my reading was in Deuteronomy, Psalms and Acts.

In Deuteronomy 34, God takes Moses up to Pisgah. God showed Moses all the land which Israel would inherit. God told Moses in verse 4, this is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac and Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed.

Moses was not going to enter the Promised Land. He did not sanctify the Lord before the people at the waters of Meribah. God is showing Moses the land so that Moses will understand the faithfulness of God. What a truth for us to know, "If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful." We can always trust the faithfulness of God to His promises.

Also today I read in Acts 5. Verse 41 reads, "they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name."

Think about it, they rejoiced because they were able to suffer for Jesus. That is not the normal mindset of a believer today. If we suffer, we complain. If the possibility of suffering for Jesus were present, we would be afraid. We need to heed the words of the disciples. We need to have the same zeal for the work of Christ that they had. If this brings suffering, instead of complaining and being fearful; we need to rejoice that the God of heaven would count us worthy to be a part of His work.
