From the pen of Brother Dennis Sampson, The five wounds Jesus received on the day He died. 1. Laceration. Came to Him from the whip that the soldiers used to scourge Him with. John 19:1. 2. Penetration. These came from the 2-3 inch long thorns that dug into his head from the crown of thorns placed on Him. John 19:2. 3. Contusion. These were delivered by the fists of the Roman soldiers. John 19:3. 4. Perforation. The soldiers used nails to bind Jesus to the cross. John 19:18; 20:25. 5. Incision. Upon seeing He was already dead but wanting to make sure He hadn't just swooned, a spear was run into His side. Out of this wound flowed blood and water. John 19:34.
