SERMONAUDIO TIP
Christian Heritage Collection .. A New Way To Support SermonAudio!
Greetings!

We are pleased to announce the Christian Heritage Collection, a collection of original art celebrating the history and heritage of the Christian church. It is an entirely new way to support SermonAudio and missions that brings together the best of art, history, and mission work -- all in one project.

We have commissioned a widely respected artist in the Southern United States, to produce limited-edition portraits of great men from church history. Men like Bunyan, Spurgeon, Luther. We then traveled to rural Mexico to partner with a missionary whose burden it is to reach the unreached -- the descendants of the Aztecs. We have commissioned him to use the Black Walnut wood found in the surrounding forests to create a beautiful custom frame for each work of art.

SermonAudio has always had a great deal of respect for the Christian giants who have gone before us down through church history. It has long since been our desire to find creative ways to acknowledge our rich heritage, while at the same time supporting the work of present-day missions in their endeavor to reach the unreached.

@Texan from Georgia:
I appreciate where you are coming from.
As an X romanist I flee from anything even remotely associated with idolatry.
Your points were valid.: thumbsup:

Sorry everyone. I'm not trying to be hateful or mean. I just see too much people worship and I don't want us to lift anyone higher than we should. I appreciate what the great men of old have done and I just want to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling. Ultimately it will be me and me alone standing before God giving account for all I have done in this body.

Fine response.
Yet, we are so prone to idolatry that it is always good to keep a safeguard up regarding the matter.

The reality is that many nowadays behave as the Jews who took ease by establishing that Abraham was their father, as a point of reference to overlook all the rest. So they cloak themselves under Calvin, Luther, Wesley’s traditions or any other denomination, almost to cultic point without real obedience, or heart experience.

“... think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father:
for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance"
Mat 3:8-9

God bless

I am sure the fine people at SA are well aware of that fact. Again, please turn to the Scripture and see what it states

Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. (Hebrews 13:7)

Paul said (I Cor. 4:16) Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me

God constantly commended or denounced kings according to whether or not they followed the example of David

Plus you have the many mentioned in Hebrews 11 as examples of faith.

These men that SA wants to honor are of those who fit the description of Hebrews 13:7, and remember it is also a mission support project and a way to support the work on this website.

Soooo, Unprofitable what you're saying is that all of the man made dieties of the RCC are OK?
where exactly did I say or imply that?

I might be missing something bere, is this breaking news about statues in the RCC?

You are on the verge there of violating the 9th commandment. You might want to rephrase your post. Thank you.

Soooo, Unprofitable what you're saying is that all of the man made dieties of the RCC are OK? God did tell Moses in the construction of the tent to make certain images, but that was God. Read your bible my friend (Exodus 20:4 and Leviticus 26:1) just to clarify. Perhaps we don't worship these great men like an idol per SE, but they were just that... Men like we are. But hey, people don't worship musicians and Hellywood Stars either.

Best I can see they are not making graven images, nor are they encouraging people to bow down and worship their art.
A graven image was clearly a depiction that was to represent God (that is where the bow down and worship comes in) SA is not attempting to make any images of God.
Read your Bible, my friend, particularly the part where they made Solomon's temple (many more examples could be given) and you will see that making artistic renderings is not the same as making graven images.
Remember the creation of the serpent (a graven image)in Numbers 21, happened AFTER the giving of the Decalogue and was commanded by God. It was not destroyed until it became an object of worship, thus violating the 2nd commandment, long afterward. Obviously, the graven image in and of itself did not constitute a violation of the 2nd commandment when it was made.
Good points US. Also God himself painted a multitude of pictures during the old covenant for the blessing of the new covenant saints.

However, you won't find any pictures of Charles Spurgeon or John Calvin on my walls, like the Catholics have a picture of their pope. Far too dangerous.
