United Prayer Journal // DAY 571
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil." (Psalm 90:15)

This is a prayer. This is proportional blessing! This tells me that the blessing that is to come will be as great or greater than the affliction that we have been through. Make us glad according to the days of affliction. Are we plumbing the depths of debauchery, wickedness, insanity, lawlessness, and rebellion in our society at a breathtaking pace? And is it a sad reality that the church is powerless to do anything about it? Do we need further evidence of the days of affliction?

This verse is a prayer that God would turn again our captivity and fill our mouth with laughter. Make us glad, O LORD, according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us. Are you afflicted, dear Christian? Are you mourning over lost loved ones or wayward children? Does it seem that there is only pitch darkness in the black sea ahead? Make this your prayer. Make us glad according to the days of affliction. The greater the darkness of affliction may be, the brighter the morning of gladness will be.

Personally, I believe the greatest days for the church are yet ahead of us. I refuse to believe that there is NOTHING left for us to do but to wait for Jesus to return—as if the Holy Spirit were any less powerful to deal with the enemies of the Gospel. The longer I live, the more convinced I am of it. Sure, once we pass from this scene, faith will give way to sight. But what brings more glory to God? Seeing with the physical eye, or believing without seeing? According to Jesus in John 20:29, "blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." I want to live as long as possible in the realm of faith so as to bring maximum glory to God. Anybody can see, but not everyone can believe.

May God keep our faith strong and may a great revival break upon us even in our lifetime!
