This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.

I must share this (long) clip by Tim Conway that was preached just this past Sunday. It is a heartfelt plea for the prayer meeting. It resonated with me so deeply and I hope it can with you as well. This is the season for conferences in the church and there are some excellent ones with very gifted speakers. The church is strong on the side of preaching and teaching with a lot of resources and energy being given to the "ministry of the Word." However, the twin sister of "prayer" gets very little attention and is almost an entirely neglected spiritual grace. Why is this? For starters, prayer is extremely unglamorous and it is extremely humbling. Do any of us really relish the thought of weeping in the presence of others and pouring out our hearts with broken phrases and stumbling words? Do we really enjoy pleading in humility for our lost family members? It might be easy to "say our prayers" and pray lofty prayers for the needs of the whole world. But when it comes to coming to God with a broken and contrite heart, that's an entirely different thing altogether. Friends, we need to die to our reputation, die to man's opinion, die to the fear of others, and set our face like a flint toward the holy hill of God and pray!
