This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all." Ecclesiastes 11:5.
Yesterday, one of our praying saints mentioned a wayward young person whom she has been praying for earnestly now beginning to listen to sermons and showing an interest in the things of God. Praise the Lord! It reminded me of the above verse in Ecclesiastes where we often cannot see what God is doing in the hearts of our loved ones that we are praying for. A child growing in the womb is a beautiful reality, but it is also a hidden thing, and a slow thing. Similarly, we often cannot detect the slow but sure working of God's Spirit in the lives of our loved ones day after day. But just as sure as the "bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all."
Let us not dishonor our gracious Lord with blind unbelief. As you consider your children each day, whether they are in the home or not, remember the child in the womb. You do not know what God is doing in their heart so keep praying. God is hearing. Be patient and persist as we await the "full birth" of the answer in the lives of those we love.
