United Prayer Journal // DAY 161
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
It's been a difficult week. I haven't been able to attend a few of the prayer times this week and last week. But yesterday I was thankful. The prayer meeting has a reviving influence over my soul. Not every time to be honest. But yesterday was a blessing. I thank the Lord for praying saints.

There's a lot in this world that can cause our hearts to grow anxious. There are a lot of health needs (including in our own family). There are financial needs. There's so much uncertainty about the future, in regards to our nation or our children or grandchildren. There's so much out of our control and it seems we can be overcome with fear, even as God's children. I have my share of cares as well. I was hit with another such care yesterday in regards to our work at SermonAudio. My mind kept going back to the words of Christ, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." John 14:1. The answer for a troubled heart is ... faith. When we detect our hearts drifting into anxiety or care-fulness, the answer is to trust God. Trust in His promises. "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen." 2 Cor 1:20. Trust that we have an all-wise, all-loving Heavenly Father who has already proven His love for us in giving us His Son. "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" Romans 8:32. Trust God. Have faith. And let not our hearts be troubled.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Philippians 4:6.

Then of course we need to express our burdens to the Lord IN PRAYER. In this world we will have tribulation and trials. But the Lord desires that we bring our cares to Him in prayer. "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7. Friends, are you weary with a load of care? Let us gather with one another and collectively take our burdens to the Lord in prayer. To whom else shall we go? Only God can help us in our deepest need.

Are we weak and heavyladen,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
