More pastors endorsing candidates
Few pastors make political endorsements from the pulpit, but a growing number publicly back candidates when they step away from their church role.

Among U.S. Protestant pastors, 1 percent say they have publicly endorsed a candidate for public office during a church service this year, while 98 percent have not, according to a new study from Nashville-based LifeWay Research. Those numbers are unchanged from a 2016 LifeWay Research study.

There is no requirement that churches register or stay as 501c3. If folks won't give unless they can't deduct their giving, they might just have the wrong attitude about it. My pastor and elders decided a few years ago to attach us to 501c3. I questioned it at the time, and he said, paraphrasing, if there were an attempt to stop us from being church, and preaching/teaching, we would cease being 501c3. I do trust him, but I thought it better not to have any dealings with the IRS in the first place.

Brother QC, I don’t remember Trump mentioning doing away with 501C3 restrictions, but it sounds like something he would have done. A few years ago I did a study on this and came to the conclusion that the government should put no restrictions on churches and that churches should not sign up if it limits what they say. So the laws that govern this are immoral. No one can deny most churches have these restrictions.

How any believer or group of believers could consent to this is beyond me.

The government should simply leave the churches alone.

First endorsing a politician (not commenting on the merits of that)and supporting moral causes is not forcing Christianity on anyone

Second there was no political system in place during the early church that allowed people to select representatives so what they did or didn’t do along those lines is meaningless to this discussion

I couldn't imagine an Apostle endorsing a Roman politician, though just the same, the relatively decent ones like Cincinnatus and Cato the Younger (famously incorruptible, a rare quality these days) were long gone, and during the Principate, it was a matter of hoping the next Emperor wouldn't be a fool, persecutor, or sadist.

It was common in ancient elections to bribe voters, which Progressives do today with welfare, if they don't do it outright. I like the way Will Cuppy put it: "Pericles loved Democracy so much, he paid people to vote." Also, note the Romans extended suffrage to foreigners like uncouth Germans.

I didn’t read the article.

I’m not sure if the below cut and paste is still valid, but if it is then if these pastors are doing it from their pulpits, then they are violating it. I personally don’t like the 501C3 concept and think that pastors/churches should not be restricted in what they say behind a pulpit or anywhere else.

In 1954, Congress approved an amendment by Sen. Lyndon Johnson to prohibit 501(c)(3) organizations, which includes charities and churches, from engaging in any political campaign activity. To the extent Congress has revisited the ban over the years, it has in fact strengthened the ban. The most recent change came in 1987 when Congress amended the language to clarify that the prohibition also applies to statements opposing candidates.

Currently, the law prohibits political campaign activity by charities and churches by defining a 501(c)(3) organization as one "which does not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office."

7. because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8. and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.---

The article points out even if it doesn't feel like it that many pastors are realizing the important feature of the church ❗👍
