SBC theologian angers some with call for Matthew 18 discipline for churches that promote ‘wokeness’
A Southern Baptist theologian in Kansas City, Missouri, is under fire from some pastors and Christian academics for recommending Matthew 18 discipline for those who “teach and promote wokeness.”
“In churches and institutions, those who teach and promote wokeness — binding the conscience of people with new unbiblical laws — must face Matthew 18 discipline. The church has tolerated the spread of wokeness too long. It is time for a line in the sand,” Owen Strachan, an associate professor of Christian theology and director of the center for public theology at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, said in tweet Saturday.
The tweet drew attention to a recent series of presentations the professor made at Redeemer Bible Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, on Christianity and Wokeness....

I’m sure you think what you said makes sense, Jim. It doesn’t, but as an American, you have the right say things that don’t make sense. Just remember, as a decent Democrat, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, said,
“Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.”
Dr. Paul Harder wrote: "...fundamentalists shifted to a much more inward and individualized strategy, that of calling non-believers into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. There were at least two reasons for this. First, their recent setbacks had soured them on political action; their successes in passing anti-evolution legislation and Prohibition had proven to be only temporary. Second, their eschatology taught them that wickedness, crime, natural disasters, persecution of faithful Christians and political oppression would all increase before the return of Christ. Fundamentalists directed their energy toward revival because it seemed to them that real, lasting political reform was impossible....

No gentlemen and lady I still subscribe to the above, (on page 85 of the dissertation) rather a succinct description of what dispensationalists should be practicing. I have no use for the anti-abortion positions being used as a stalking horse to cover up the old and still alive racist ideas of the Old Confederacy. so, I didn't go out banging on doors, or sorry to say, contributing to the Democratic party❗🛐
No fascism in America , carried water for social justice, reparations , an awakening of casting aside old mantras of the gospel and personal responsibility and promotes a cultural revolution that tears down historical American values and castigates the “ white privileged middle class “. The reason for shutting down your state is to make the working class more impoverished. Thus if you’re in line for food and clothing, you’ll do whatever the State says you must do. The Southern Baptist Denomination is tipping into a split. Family churches by the hundreds will close due to shutdowns and what will the faithful do? Well, SESBTS wants all good baptists to bow their heads and listen closely to the words from Southeastern theological seminary to think hard and quick that they too must become mini social justice warriors for Jesus, or leave the denomination.

Jim,
It's clear you fail to see your hypocrisy. If it's your goal to personally avoid political/social activism, and encourage others to do the same, then you need to stop promoting liberal political policies and abstain from voting.
But instead you put up articles like this to soothe your depraved conscience and reassure yourself that it's perfectly okay, and the Christian thing to do, to promote and vote for a democratic ticket that proudly promotes abortion and the destruction of our constitutional republic, amongst a host of other evil policies, in the name of social justice.
Though you've successfully fooled yourself, God isn't fooled. And neither are we.
"What are we to do? We must follow Scripture. Neither Jesus nor His apostles nor the biblical early church ever engaged in social or political activism or advocated it."- So Jim, does this mean you are no longer going to promote the narrative here? Are you done bashing Trump and promoting Biden and the Democratic party? After all, you wouldn't want to look like a hypocrite would you?
BTW, the greatest danger to this world is not homosexuality, or sexual sin of any stripe. The greatest danger are false teachers and false gospels, Christ warned His disciples about this very thing in Matthew 24:4, "Take heed that NO MAN deceive you", and other warnings like 'beware of false prophets'. What makes these times so perilous? "The greatest sign of the nearness of Christ's coming again is false Christianity, and that's the great deception. People believing they're Christian, claiming to be Christian but they're not Christian because their Christianity is not biblical".- William Parker
Sure refreshing to see your new stance on involvement in politics, Jim. Of course this means you’ll no longer advocate universal healthcare, and you’re going to stop campaigning for Joe Biden, right? Oh, you mean WE shouldn’t be involved in politics. Right.
Dave Hunt wrote: .... I went on to explain that we cannot force the ungodly to live by God's standards. Nor is abortion the only or perhaps even the worst evil. Prostitutes and homosexuals destroy the lives of untold millions of young people; drug dealers, more millions than abortionists....I cannot find teaching or example in the entire Bible to indicate that Christians are to combat the world's sins except with the gospel.... .... What are we to do? We must follow Scripture. Neither Jesus nor His apostles nor the biblical early church ever engaged in social or political activism or advocated it. The Great Commission is not to go into all the world to reform its morals by forcing sinners to behave like saints, but to “preach the gospel” and convert sinners. And in the end, the conversion of sinners will have a far greater impact on society than all of the lobbying, protest marches and passionate appeals to morality that consume the time and energy of concerned Christians....

Hmmmm...sounds like his theology is influencing his politics, Jim. Thought you said that was a "no no"? It also sounds like this pastor is forcing his views on others, having bought into socialism as an extension of his theology. What a shame.
It reminds me of a clip posted here on SA called the "Voice of Bob Jones Sr." His comments on this are so much better than mine, I'll refer you to him, Jim.
"Dr. Joel C. Hunter was President Barack Obama’s spiritual advisor for eight years – but then voted for Donald Trump in 2016. This time around, he’s backing Biden, having formed a group called Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden. He speaks with Michel Martin about what changed his mind."
This is a 17 minute plus interview with the co-founder of the Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden who had been a pastor for nearly 50 years. He has had some interesting experiences with doing this. Of course, he's more gentle spoken than his opposition usually is.
I'm not worried about having that happe,n Timothy.
One day, Jim, we will not be reading “Removed by Moderator Alpha.” Instead, it will be “Removed by Alpha and Omega.” Then where will you be? “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Will you turn, or will you burn?
It’s sad how the BLM movement is just fine with the number 1 killer of the Black community who are image barriers of God. Who sadly instead of being in the most precious place to be in the womb. But it’s the most dangerous place to be.
& the woke movement who has just repackaged old lies, is nothing new, than a message & movement that’s is contrary to sound teaching.
That their is only 1 human race that the Christ has established that the only equall playing field is only found at the foot of Cross in what only Christ can do for one alone. In bringing reconciliation to one, as Christ didn’t come for the righteous but for sinners, praise You Lord. For being a true seeker amen!
Pastor Josh Buice; God has one Son & he entered history as a gospel preacher, n’t a social justice warrior.
If your church is hitched to the woke movement & the woke message (CRT/I) it’s time to find a new church.
Actually, fascism is already here, it came through politics Jim. You know that because you are a big part of it. It came through the Democratic funded and supported agenda of BLM and Antifa. Fascism definition is - a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.- that seems to be the goal, in part, of the Demoncrats. BTW, the Demoncrats are not favorable to blacks.https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/05/the_democratic_partys_evolving_racism_toward_blacks_.html
WFP, I've been watching a show called the Line of Contention on our PBS network, it seems like the depicted Nazis and neo-nazis always called all their enemies socialists or Bolsheviks, what was interesting since these Nazi types were just as bad as the Communists❗👎
'When Fascism comes to America, it will come carrying a Bible and wrapped in a flag.'
The Quiet Christian wrote: Same old tired arguments, Jim. Salt has to be salty and it can't stay in its container to be useful as a preservative, to paraphrase the Lord. If we are to be salt and light, then we need to stand against what the Lord says is wrong andnstandnup for what the Lord says is right. Jim, you either have a very different view of what the Lord says or you don't care what He says, only listening to the cultural icons of this age. Praying for you to come into the Light where you can see more clearly.
Now be fair, QC. Jim likes salt, but he prefers that him-a-lyin salt. And it’s pink, too.
I think the great divide needs to be discussed. The SBC of Mohler, Moore and Greear has wanted biblical truth to be to in the same lane with social malarkey. They think they could put fundamentalists, covenant faithful with communists on the same pew. But most likely they think that fundamental crackers are the problem and if they need to either leave the church, and the woke mantra gets the SBC closer to remaking the SBC denomination more in line with a modern evangelical soup. Basically, the current leadership wants to make Baptists , Episcopalians and let the old builders stay home and watch reruns of Adrian Rodgers or Charles Stanley. Problem with that is the builders still pay the majority of the bills and therefore the builders still rule. So perhaps there will be a awakening of the utter sinfulness this cabal has given the denomination and to every pastor or theology professor ( Danny Akin), that is preaching woken heresy... there’s a time to repent, but only for a brief season, and the time is fading.
The biggest story of the day is the corruption of the Bidens - https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/10/day-2-bombshell-newly-released-emails-show-hunter-biden-worked-cash-big-china-money-held-joe-biden/

John MacArthur wrote: .... Jesus' earthly ministry took place right in the midst of that difficult social and political atmosphere. Many of His followers, including the Twelve, to varying degrees expected Him to free them from Rome's oppressive rule. But our Lord did not come as a political deliverer or social reformer. He never issued a call for such changes, even by peaceful means. Unlike many late twentieth-century evangelicals, Jesus did not rally supporters to some grandiose attempt to "capture the culture" for biblical morality or greater political and religious freedoms....

By the way,
1 Corinthians 5:11-12
11. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 12. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
