There’s Less Than 1% Chance of Catching Covid-19 Flying
Chief executive officers and executives from every major American airline spoke this week at the Skift Global Forum, a virtual conference focused on the travel industry and—this year—its stunted rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic.

With only days remaining before the Oct. 1 deadline to extend Washington’s payroll support program, which has granted the sector $25 billion in bailouts since March, the tone was generally more urgent than optimistic.

“I’ve been through 9/11, through the financial crisis, through restructuring, through our merger with US Airways and the Max grounding,” said Maya Leibman, executive vice president and chief information officer of American Airlines, “and I can say with certainty that this one takes the cake, in terms of crises.” ...

My wife took a plane trip recently. Mask worn during the flight was annoying, but empty seat requirement between passengers was pleasant. All in all, no complaints, but the dumbness of limited passengers and mask wearing in an enclosed space with recirculated air is also noted. Emotion driven business practice disguised as protecting health. A lot of that going around.

I am sure Dr Fauci, John UK, and Jim Lincoln are very happy not to fly anywhere. The experience I have heard is that at present flying is not a pleasant one, because of the COVID 19 restrictions, and the fanatics that run both the airlines and the airports, face masks must be worn at all times, by everyone over the age of 2 years, with virtually no exemptions allowed, in both departure and arrival terminals and in the aircraft. I have heard of people who should be medically exempt because (not even the medical exemptions, mental and physical that may apply in some countries), being manhandled very rudely and distressingly off planes. In addition to the many elaborate one way systems, very limited seat allocations, and the already severe security because of the 9/11, from years back, most airlines do not provide any food or refreshments at all, (water excepted), or only very basic prepackaged food, with plastic implements, all disposable, all in all, making what should be a pleasant experience into something very unpleasant. People are being herded around like criminals. Governments like the one in Melbourne Victoria, New York City and State, California and many others that seem to delight in newly found despotism and trampling of democracy.

I will not be going on a plane flight; never have and never will. The only way I could be found in an aeroplane is if I was kidnapped, drugged, and boxed up and put into the freight compartment. That apart, I will never die in an aeroplane crash. Prevention is better than cure.

In the UK we might call him a silly billy or a nincompoop.

Actually, Brother Frank, the fact that those of African descent have a higher rate of death has been an issue in our area. Read that the sickle cell trait may be a factor. Thanks brother! I have always thought the reason for the higher infection rates among blacks and Hispanics was because of their lifestyles. They tend to follow their mothers and grandmothers and many times there are several generations in the same house. Lots of reasons why this happens; education, jobs, no working fathers, etc.

But, truly that was just an opinion without any real proof that is even a reason. I have also like you alluded to heard that it was caused by certain inherent medical conditions and health care.

The important thing is the problem needs solved. Stop the riots.

I’m so glad no one mentioned the riot gatherings; airplanes are not off limit. Yes, they do allow rioters to violate all of the pandemic rules. But, they are normally young folks and it will simply be like a cold to them. Only their parents or grandparents would die from it. And for any naysayers, at a minimum some of them would die. And then of course you have the fact that reparations have not been distributed yet. So, these poor folks must take matters into their own hands.

The only class that does not have automatic victim status are white males. And the fact that blacks are much more likely to die from this; why hasn’t this socialist movement addressed this. This is in fact a BLM issue.

Why hasn’t Fauci, Jim or most democratic leaders addressed the above?

Not sorry for the sarcasm here and for being off topic.

Since the study was funded by the aviation industry, that 1% statistic is doubly worthless as there is a Conflict of Interest.

Also consider the risk of whether you want to fly aboard the 737 MAX. Signifying America's ethical collapse, Boeing products (as well as the FAA regulators in their pockets) are no longer reputable. How are the mighty fallen! Some industry types blame the cost-cutting McDonnell Douglas execs from the merger.

Airplanes and Public Transportation

"I'm 79 years old. I am not getting on a plane," Fauci told the Washington Post in an interview on July 3. "I have been on flights where I've been seated near people who were sneezing and coughing, and then three days later, I've got it. So, no chance. No Metro, no public transportation. I'm in a high risk group, and I don't want to play around."....
