Charles Stanley transitions to pastor emeritus at First Baptist Atlanta
In a video announcement following the online service at First Baptist Church in Atlanta today, longtime pastor Charles Stanley announced his transition to pastor emeritus.
Stanley, who came to First Baptist as an associate pastor in 1969 before being named pastor two years later, informed the church’s board earlier this month of the decision.
‚ÄúI‚Äôm so grateful [God] saw fit to allow me to serve as your pastor for more than 50 years,‚ÄĚ he said. ‚ÄúAs much as I love being your pastor, I know in my heart this season has come to an end.‚ÄĚ...
I am sorry to hear from cv a very gloomy report that the Australian people as a whole support the lockdown, mask mandates and the heavy police state type restrictions. I have heard that unexpectedly ‚Äúregional Victoria‚ÄĚ , that is the area of the state outside metropolitan Melbourne has now been suddenly freed from some of the severe restrictions. However, the city of Melbourne has now been surrounded by police checkpoints so no one in the city can leave to go to ‚Äúregional Victoria‚ÄĚ to enjoy the new freedoms. There is a huge fine for anyone who tries to leave the city without permission. I know that the papers and the state ABC radio and television go along with the narrative, only the Australian Sky tv seems to partly oppose it. Here in Britain there has been some backlash on the ‚ÄúRule of Six‚ÄĚ, and the ridiculous unBritish ‚Äú‚ÄĚCovid Marshals‚ÄĚ. However, as stated on another thread in SA, the Gestapo / Stasi style ‚Äúsnitch line‚ÄĚ in Virginia seems to be another popular tactic. Combined with this, I have not heard any of the Australian churches making any kind of a stand, rather like our British churches. An unexpected intervention was Archbishop Welby here who has now criticised the Rule of Six!! He has been totally silent until now.
There is a perception that a tyrannical police state is oppressing the people in Australia. Far from it! The overwhelming majority of people support lockdowns, restrictions and closures. The Pharma not only has absolute control over government and the "free press," the people are completely sold on their narrative.
Take for instance the pregnant lady you mentioned, 80+ % of the people supported her arrest. And they believe she needed permission to hold a protest.
And the dissenters are a small minority, and on the internet, otherwise the masses will go ferrel on them. The internet has opened the world. The saturated coverage of USA's focus on liberty & freedom has stirred a debate to question restrictions and closures. But only an internet debate as a pastime.
Here is a country that needs prayers. Where this great country once knew God, it's now on its way to beat the USA on the race to the bottom. Alan Cairns in one of his sermons mentions how the mighty UK with its rich Godly heritage, used to lead the world in missionaries. He says today if you mentioned Jesus or gave out a track, they wouldn't know what you're talking about.
If the idea how the antichrist can exercise so much control over people seems unbelievable, think again!
Good to hear from you Dave from Oz. What on Earth is happening down there in Australia, with Victoria in perpetual lockdown, curfews and mask wearing, and overzealous police arresting pregnant women for a Facebook post and elderly ladies on benches, and Queensland where a dictatorial Premier closed the borders (except to celebrities of course), and banned an out of state woman from her father‚Äôs funeral, only allowing her in full PPE gear, accompanied by a full police escort like a criminal, to view her dead father in his coffin, despite a plea from the federal Prime Minister and a dying father is only allowed to have one of his 4 young sons visit him on his deathbed. To return to Charles Stanley, he must be very sad about his son, Andy Stanley, a true Marcion if ever there was one. (Marcionism was an early church heresy which despised the Old Testament, and even some of the New). Andy Stanley, is tragically the newer sort of ‚Äúneo-evangelical‚ÄĚ liberal.
I read ‚Äú The reason of my hope‚ÄĚ by Charles Stanley and it helped pivot my depression from despair to the Bible 20 years ago. So, for all the comments about Stanley and his family- isn‚Äôt my business. I read his books, and if you read one, you‚Äôve probably read them all. But, that said, Stanley definitely understands idea of working till death calls you home, even if it means you‚Äôre a divorced millionaire Baptist preacher.
Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."
Numb 8:24 This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more: 26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge."
I do believe that Mr. Jim Lincoln is your typical goat that the Bible warns about. Charles Stanley is not perfect and none of us are. His books and his ministry has been beneficial in my life. Anyone that comes on here to cast stones should self examine also. I’m afraid that Jim is not saved and that’s why he pushes for Biden to be elected so that more Christians and babies can be aborted. I suggest Jim puts on his mask and leaves us Christians alone for a while why he prays for his salvation.
Jim Lincoln wrote: I'm Charles Stanley's "almost" divorce? His son Andy Stanley So he should have resigned from his church at that point. I don't know if they're communicating with each other or not anymore? He's unqualified.
Wow jim Lincoln, I didn‚Äôt know you were so perfect, i guess that's what makes you so wise... in your own eyesūü§Ē
(Sarcasm = attention getter)
Myself being born into the brokenness of sin & now delivered by the grace of Christ. After looking at your writings I suggest you take a unjaundiced view of yourself and take stock of your life, because You come off sadly bitter and contemptuous.
For you're permeated with sin (as we all were born into & earned on our own) and can only be cleansed and reborn by Christ Jesus salvation.
I'm Charles Stanley's "almost" divorce? His son Andy Stanley So he should have resigned from his church at that point. I don't know if they're communicating with each other or not anymore?
