US Christians increasingly departing from core truths of Christian worldview
A new survey shows that the majority of Americans no longer believe that Jesus is the path to salvation and instead believe that being a good person is sufficient.

As part of the ongoing release of the Arizona Christian University-based Cultural Research Center's American Worldview Inventory, the latest findings — exploring perceptions of sin and salvation — from George Barna, the group's director, show that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that having some kind of faith is more important than the particular faith with which someone aligns.

Sixty-eight percent who embrace that notion identify as Christians, including 56% of self-described evangelicals and 62% of those who identify as Pentecostals. Sixty-seven percent of mainline Protestants and 77% of Catholics also embraced that idea, the findings show. ...

Well said, John. Satan would identify as a Christian if it would help him win a national election. His minions already do.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
II Timothy 4:3-4

These people aren't Christians departing from core truths, they are unbelievers who have turned away from the truth of God's word!

Noname; Jim has clearly has made many statements on here that reflects one who is devoid of the Spirit in dwelling in one. As he regularly has justified abortion on here.

From a Biblical standpoint their is no sinless perfection on this sided of Heaven, but one will either be a slave to Righteousness or a loyal slave to unrighteousness!

Jhn 7:24 Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

Jim has created a God to fit his own sinful liking that excuses & justifies his pet sins. I am asumeing you haven’t been on this form all that much, to see Jim many statements that pin one against Christ!!

I’m no better than Jim just better off because either one is in Christ or one’s out of Christ

Jesus makes it ever so clear of having false hope & one n’t having a desire to be holy as Christ is by departing from sin!

Mat 7:21-23!

Well if the Lord uses heretics for His purposes, then that is the Lord's business. I would never do it intentionally. But I am pretty sure that your definition of what a heretic is, is different than mine.

Jim, good post!

Needhim, it is not for man to judge the heart but God. I have noticed a lot of people on here are straight up telling Jim he is not a Christian bc of his political beliefs. Although I do not believe Jim is right in what he believes at all, I do believe you can be saved but blinded about certain things. One last thing prides a killer folks.

Thanks brother. I normally check out whoever is writing something, but in this case I didn't. If he is a RC, then I will erase him from a file I have and never quote him again.

We agree on that.

If his name is Christian Smith then he is RC. Thanks he is now gone.

I just erased the MTD from my records. I have quoted that article several times on the forum and I want to apologize to all my brothers and sisters for being so careless.

The below was part of an earlier SA news thread.
Moralistic Therapeutic Theism.
“As described by Smith and his team, Moralistic Therapeutic Deism consists of beliefs like these: 1. "A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth." 2. "God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions." 3. "The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself." 4. "God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem." 5. "Good people go to heaven when they die."
I believe that cultural Christianity is the true nemesis of the genuine faith. And I believe that the vast majority in the U.S., have the above thoughts. They just use the name of Christ; instead of Buddha or Allah because of the culture they were raised in.

"Because of the corruption of his nature, the soul of man is not only darkened with a mist of ignorance by which he is disabled from comprehending divine truth, but he is also armed with prejudice and opposition against some parts of it. These are either most above or most contrary to some false principles which he has framed for himself. Just as a desire for self-sufficiency was the first cause of this infirmity, so he still languishes with a conceit of it. He contends for nothing more than he contends for an independence from any supreme power which might either help, hinder, or control him in his actions. This is that bitter root from which have sprung all those heresies and wretched contentions which have troubled the church, concerning the power of man in working his own happiness, and his exemption from the over-ruling providence of Almighty God. All these wrangling disputes of carnal reason against the word of God come at last to this head: whether the first and highest part in disposing of things in this world, ought to be ascribed to God or man? Men for the most part have vindicated this pre-eminence for themselves by exclamations that it must be so, or else God is unjust, and his ways are unequal." (John Owen) (Display of Arminianism)

""majority of Americans no longer believe that Jesus is the path to salvation and instead believe that being a good person is sufficient""

Salvation by self - or salvation by works has been around for centuries.
It is the religious theory of the RCC and the Liberalist and Arminian churches.

Liberalist churches such as the Anglican/Episcopalian crowd even deny repentance of sin, partly because they don't accept the true definition of sin within human beings.
An example of this is the so called "gay-Christian"

The Reformers were right in identifying the church as "visible and invisible"

But God only saves His elect.
"According as HE HATH CHOSEN us in him BEFORE the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having PREDESTINATED us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of HIS WILL" Eph 1:4/5.
