One in Three Practicing Christians Has Stopped Attending Church During COVID-19
Recent data show that, among practicing Christians—those who identify as Christian, agree strongly that faith is very important in their lives and attend church at least monthly (prior to COVID-19)—over half (53%) say they have streamed their regular church online within the past four weeks. Another 34 percent admits to streaming a different church service online other than their own, essentially “church hopping” digitally.
Finally, about one-third of practicing Christians (32%) says they have done neither of these things. Though some of these churchgoers may be part of the minority of congregations that were still gathering for physical worship during these weeks, we can, for the most part, confidently interpret this group as those who have dropped out of church for the time being....

Coronaviruses have been around for a long time. No one has ever come up with a vaccine. We shouldn't think after just a few months of research, that we might expect one. More likely is, holding out the hope for one makes it easier to keep people ok with masking, restrictions, etc. It gives it all a temporary feel. Doubtful there is any intention of getting back to anything resembling normal. The lefties were talking "new normal" when it started. Besides, the governors who lust for power anyway, have now tasted real power and that is pretty addictive. They won't give it up easily. There is no longer an emergency condition in my State. Yet the Cuomo is still bypassing the legislature and issuing decrees as though he were a king.
As for the winnowing of the church, the governors may mean it for evil, but God will use it for good.
I have heard that Catholic churches were allowed to open way before others, at least a friend in Florida told me. Of course, they are the largest church in the US, so it could have been politicians just responding to the Power of the Vote---you keep us closed, and we will not vote for you. When restaurants and bars were closed, they didn't have the political power. The 1st question is...well, when will we go back to normal-when a vaccine is announced? Then we'll hear from people complaining about taking vaccines, which will lead to the measles outbreaks we've seen in some areas (like Europe, for example). 2nd: will people go back to church as before? or will this extended Time-Out make them wonder....you know, I can get sermons and Bible studies on my cellphone, cable TV, satellite radio service, computer, etc. Do I really need to get dressed up once a week to make a show of being 'in church'? Maybe this is a winnowing process so that only the people who are really interested in what their local church is doing, both in terms of growing spiritually with others, and a mission impact in their area, will be there. But it won't look pretty--an 80 percent drop rate.

Here is another statistic about churches. over 80 percent of christians attending the visible church are not true Christian.

Exactly. The carnal physical attraction has been destroyed for the moment. Unfortunately, the flashy videos of dead churches that only care about Mammon and numbers, are still available for godless modern Christians to watch on the portable idol in their hands.

My wife and I are high risk, we have grocery pick up, restaurant pick up and have attended church when neither of us are feeling poorly. But Our children have been tested frequently because of their high risk professions. Wuhan virus is deadly-so, out of caution, we stay home and listen to our church sermons. What I am opposed to is the majority of states blaming churches for the increase and not thousands going to bars, parties and riots- not the very few who attended church.
Relationships with the body of Christ are an important aspect. It could be that the disconnection from those relationships has kept attenders away. But Sunday worship isn't as much about those relationships as it is about our relationship with the Head of the Body, the Lord Jesus. Plenty of quality churches broadcast thru SA to choose from.
