California Bans Singing in Church
The State of California has banned singing in any indoor religious services, even with masks on, under new guidelines issued by the Department of Public Health to control the spread of the coronavirus.

*Places of worship must therefore discontinue singing and chanting activities and limit indoor attendance to 25% of building capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower. Local Health Officers are advised to consider appropriate limitations on outdoor attendance capacities, factoring their jurisdiction’s key COVID- 19 health indicators. At a minimum, outdoor attendance should be limited naturally through implementation of strict physical distancing measures of a minimum of six feet between attendees from different households, in addition to other relevant protocols within this document. ...

It is far worse the epidemic of modern scholarship that has removed (banned?).... warning that endangers the modern 'church'

BUT now we see the problem, and the apologist referred to is James White. Check out Jeff Riddle's above article and the same sermons also here on SermonAudio. Note his conclusion.

Thanks for bringing the matter to the front, as truly and sadly there is "an epidemic of modern scholarship that bans (censors even) ... warnings that endanger the modern church"

It is far worse the epidemic of modern scholarship that has removed (banned?) the Confessional Text; the KJV disappears in most Reformed Churches, and like the toppling of historical statues, done with not a little triumphalism. Those in the pew are duped into handling that version as though it required the wearing of rubber gloves...as some dusty archaic artefact or worse still something they have been told needs disposing of because they believe it carries some unknown spiritual health warning that endangers the modern 'church'!
BUT now we see the problem, and the apologist referred to is James White. Check out Jeff Riddle's above article and the same sermons also here on SermonAudio. Note his conclusion.

Brother, times come and go, but the Lord holds their sway, and in the midst of them all, he sustains his own,

"O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee,
I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things:
Thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth ...

For thou hast been a strength to the poor,
a strength to the needy in his distress,
a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat,
when the blast of the *terrible ones* is as a storm against the wall. "

Thank you brother or sister B McCausland, (sorry I am not sure which), that is indeed a lovely hymn, and very appropriate for these days.

This morning I read Psalm 137 about the Babylonians mocking the exiled and captive Israelites to sing a song of Zion, the city that they (the Babylonians), had sacked and destroyed.

I really feel that the global authorities are really mocking the church. The pubs and bars here (which have all reopened here in England, albeit with restrictions, and the stores, too), are flourishing and busy, except in Leicester, the unfortunate city with a local lockdown still in force.

But churches like Met Tab, are open with a fully masked congregation, all spaced out, and yet still they cannot sing!!! This is iniquitous. Masks are not actually mandatory, it is the church authorities that have made them so, yet despite the face being completely covered, the congregation still cannot sing God’s praises, and must sit and listen to recorded hymns instead. Sorry, folks, something very wrong here!!

Services will be kept down to about I hour maximum, and there is a whole host of rules, and spacing out, and of course, places must be booked in advance, with names and phone numbers given.

To encourage you, wishing you every blessing

We love the place, O God,
Wherein Thine honor dwells;
The joy of Thine abode
All earthly joy excels.

It is the house of prayer
Wherein Thy servants meet;
And Thou, O Lord, art there
Thy chosen flock to greet

We love the word of life,
the word that tells of peace,
of comfort in the strife,
and joys that never cease.

We love to sing below
for mercies freely given;
but O we long to know
the triumph-song of heaven.

Not surprising with Governor Newsom's Jesuit education that he praises. The Jesuit Society is counter Reformation and they make an oath (including pope Francis) 'when opportunity presents to make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly against all Protestants.'
Covid must be perfect opportunity to shut and control churches.

Do you think they would ban singing at one of those rallies against racism, operated by the Marxist organization, BLM?
Anytime you hear the words, 'systemic racism' you need to ask yourself, Can this be improved? The Bible tells us man has a "Systemic Sin" problem; the solution is Jesus. Do we think the same solution can work on this problem, too?
But wait, let me ask you, is it racism to choose 95percent blacks for your NBA team? Is it racism to choose 75 percent blacks for your NFL team? Yes, it's systemic racism operating against the Asians, whites, Hispanics. Does anyone want to see it changed?
Can we get rid of Affirmative Action programs, Head Start programs, and all other aid that targets mostly black people, because that just perpetuates this Systemic Racism?
And, then, I ask myself, why aren't the blacks from the Caribbean complaining that they can't get a fair shake in the USA, despite being immigrants and black? They also have slave backgrounds in their countries; you can safely say all blacks in the Caribbean did not come on the Mayflower or any similar ship, escaping poverty in Africa. No, black tribes in AFrica captured them, sold them to white slave traders (anyone remember Amazing Grace author John Newton?), who then sent them to the Caribbean.

No doubt about it, Lurker. It's not our health they are concerned with, it's our freedom.

I wonder what C H Spurgeon would have done!! Communist China certainly must be cock a hoop. Not only suppressing their own church at home, but now the Christian Church banned or strictly controlled in all the world!! This makes a total mockery of Christian worship. Thankfully the cameramen do not film the congregation, only the pastor, so I can continue with the illusion of a “live” unmasked congregation during the hymn singing!!

Yes, here in England, singing is banned too. When churches regather this weekend, they will have to have said services. My church will not be amongst them. They are using Zoom now, but I listen to the sound recordings in SA later. I think the pastor and elders decided, as the church, including the pastor himself and at least one of the elders is elderly, and singing is banned, it would be better to livestream for the time being. I think taping off seats (we have pews not moveable chairs) and fiddling about with one way systems was too much!! At least I get to hear the lovely singing elder as they put him on as a solo with a piano in the hymn singing. I will continue, God willing, to listen live to the Met Tab, which uses recorded hymns, but I don’t know what will happen with a live congregation, as they cannot sing!!

I think the California decision is particularly egregious and very spiteful, because everyone there has to wear masks anyway, and the governor reacted both to the churches saying they would meet, and to the iniquitous Supreme Court decision in his favour.

I wasn't commenting on your link, but on your opinion. Right up
above, it says that singing with masks on is banned. And this thread, not your endless links, is what the comments are about.

I know some heading pastors are determined to hold services, but the riots were allowed without any limit, and the leftist dictators are now doing the same virtually asChina, using the Covid 19 crisis to crush Christianity which they hate.
There may be an unobserved nuance here. There are some who believe church gathereings/activities are being severely and unequally restricted because the majority are evangelical Trump supporters. So the restrictions are a form of punishment for opposing the liberal progressive agenda.

I don’t suppose yelling “No justice, no peace!” at the top of one’s lungs could possibly be as hazardous as singing “Rock of Ages” could it?

If singing in church spreads Covid then stop having church. For that matter, stop eating because your mouth is open. Community transmission happens when you have symptoms and go about spreading it to others. If they take your temperature before you enter church and you don’t have one, you probably don’t have Covid.
Not singing in church smells like the East German Stasi’s boot polish.
But I’m sure the likes of that ilk cheered in their mother’s basement. Or on a zoom link.

Is there evidence that singing with masks on in a church setting causes Covid 19, Jim? Or are you just doing your usual rah rah for anything from leftist government, no matter how dumb they are?
