Mississippi Baptists ask Legislature to remove Confederate symbol from state flag
Offering a "voice of healing in the name of Jesus Christ," Mississippi Baptists asked the Legislature Tuesday (June 23) to replace the state flag with a design that does not include the Confederate flag.

"Our position on this is motivated by our understanding of the teaching of Jesus Christ," Parker said, referencing the golden rule found in Matthew 7:12 to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and the second greatest commandment, to love your neighbor as yourself, found in Matthew 22:39.

"We take these teachings quite seriously and believe that this is indeed a moral issue and a Gospel issue for our state, and therefore we want to be not a political player in the process," Parker said. "We want to be a prophetic voice, and our hope is that our stand and our conviction will bring healing to the racial tensions that are felt in Mississippi." ...

I propose that the new flag have a white field—oh wait, that may represent white privilege, so scratch that—a red field with a magnolia tree in the center, and a possum hanging by its tail from one of the lower limbs, and the state motto (E possumus unum) emblazoned across the bottom.

I agree 100% with you Mike. Very similar to the cultural war of China in the 1960s.

You think coming after the battle flag will pacify the revisionist anti-revolutionaries? It's just another prop in the play. The American flag is on their radar as well. Only the silly think any of this has much to do with racism. Black folk are being used as tools in a larger war. If it goes the way the racist, violent protesters wish, black people will be put back on the plantation after their usefulness to the Marxist cause is done. Sure wish more people had played connect the dots when they were kids.

The Stars and Stripes have stars which represent the Southern States.

Does this mean that their stars will now have to be removed from the National flag? Due to current emotional politics?

Mike, the Confederate Battle flag is a prominent part of the Mississippi flag. I was going to say that Southern Baptists we're much too gentle in their complaints, but one should realize:

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

I see they weren't happy with the flag even before the present problems popped up

This is really clowns world. If Charles Dickens had written this story he would have named Shawn Parker "Peck Sniff." I feel sorry for those that sit in his church.

All lives don't matter. Read the Old Testament. You call evil good,

Warfares pilgrim: Southerners indeed wanted to honor their soldiers. They never honored Lincoln. Reconstruction was apron of thief, murder and lawlessness brought to the South by the evil Yankee. You speak of the KKK, you should learn of the Loyal League, those Yankee murderers that made the KKK look like sunny school. You talk of communist Learn about the Forty eighters That swelled Lincolns rotten armies and governments.. I have grown so tired of people like you.

A Baptist wuss is still a wuss. So naive to think mob mentality will ever be pacified. And using the name of Jesus to do it. It's not even the confederate flag, but who cares when feelings supercede truth?

Looks like this is old news.

"In the wake of the 2015 Charleston, South Carolina church shooting, in which nine black parishioners of an Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church were killed by Confederacy admirer and white supremacist Dylann Roof, there were renewed calls for Southern states to cease using the Confederate battle flag in official capacities.[24] This extended to increased criticism of Mississippi's state flag. All eight public universities in Mississippi, along with "several cities and counties", including Biloxi, are now refusing to fly the state flag until the emblem is removed. At displays of all 50 state flags in New Jersey, Oregon, and Philadelphia, the flag has been removed, leaving 49.[24][25][26][27][28]

Over 20 flag-related bills, some calling for another statewide referendum, were introduced in the Legislature in 2015 and 2016, but none made it out of committee.[24] A 2016 federal lawsuit alleging that the flag is tantamount to "state-sanctioned hate speech" was dismissed by both a district court and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.[29][30] The Supreme Court declined to hear the case.[31]" (Wikipedia)

Untaught history: blacks were slave owners before and during the civil war. They treated some of their enslaved black men like dogs. Harriet Tubman's husband, a free black man, threatened to sell her farther down south so she ran away. The birth of the underground railroad was started by a poor husband. Indians had slaves too. They didn't have to nor want to give theirs up when the emancipation proclamation came about. The government had to make another treaty with them. Before, during, and after the civil war whites were being captured on sailing ships to be sold as slaves in the Africa slave trade. So there you have it, blacks, Indians, and whites ALL had slaves before and during the civil war. Nobody is innocent. All have been enslaved at some point in time in history. Some still are ensalved.

ALL lives matter, even those who were evil. There deaths may have been for good, but they were made in God’s image.

However, I would somewhat support the despising of racist doctrine. These stairs should not have been erected, but I think that this is over the top.

Everything done in extreme will have extreme results. The flags, the statues and the headstones are representative of the 315,000 deaths that resulted in the Civil War. They were meant to acknowledge the lose and sacrifice of the South. And most importantly the desire of Lincoln to keep and renew the nation. But extremist from the South determined to kill him instead. Reconstruction brought the Democratic Party to the forefront. The terrorist tactics of the kkk were fermented in offices of sheriff’s, judges , ex confederates belonging to the Democratic Party representatives .
It appears the communists in our ( the term our is up for debate) Nation want to tear down everything we know and have acclimated into the fabric of our nation. We are dealing with an angry mob raised in fatherless families, taught by childless women and untested men.
Boys today are not tested to even know what men do , girls are groomed for multiple partners and abortion procedures are carried out from a pill box to the bathroom.

In the Christian culture, the builders, the prayer warriors or even our community of reading from the same bible and singing from the same hymnal was thrown are to make room for the new. God, the blessed God of hope, has brought Covid to bring us back home, to keep us fro

No problem, John UK. I read the Baptist Press article very carefully, and despite what the Mississippi Baptist President was saying, they are not following the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Apostle John, but of secular Marxist theories, the Social Gospel aka “Social Justice” and political correctness. Apparently, all the living past Presidents of the Mississippi Baptist Convention wrote in saying the flag should be changed. The first of these Presidents took office in as far back as 1984!!! How come, that he did not think it important in 1984, to take a stand in such a vital important Gospel issue.

In their statement, these gentlemen have not only bowed to the “Social Gospel / Social Justice” movement, to political correctness, and to the demands of the thugs that are charging around USA, vandalising, looting and knocking down statues, and imposing their will on everybody by force, but seem to have forgotten the Great Commission of preaching the real Gospel of repentance, and conversion, the new birth in the Lord Jesus Christ.
