Survey: Most Americans aren’t comfortable going back to religious services
A new study examining Americans' response to COVID-19 shows that with the exception of white evangelicals, a majority of Americans are not comfortable returning to in-person religious services.

The results of the survey suggest that despite political pressure to reopen houses of worship — from President Donald Trump as well as leading conservative Christians and religious liberty advocates — Americans aren't quite ready to take a seat in a sanctuary.

It is indeed the older people that I feel very sad for. There are some older people even in nursing homes and sheltered housing, that are not completely frail and can get about, yet these emergency orders have imprisoned them under house arrest, and worse their lives have been endangered by wicked and culpable politicians forcing their homes to accept Covid19 cases from hospitals wanting to empty their beds, often without testing!! Thankfully, my mothers nursing home, moved all the relatively healthy residents, and even the frail ones to an older empty home, with their current staff, before they allowed the NHS to send their Covid 19 cases to the newer home which was now empty. That at least was responsible.

As far as these dear souls returning to church, I fear the deafening silence of pastors, who will obey the church orders to the letter, and even exceed them, and who may discourage older people from attending church in person, and yet still not see them in the nursing home or their own home. As for the rest of us, this state interference in how we are to gather and worship is not good, and even requiring a register in some areas, makes me think very much of Communist China!!

The natural rhythm of church has been disrupted. We had a hospitalization in our immediate family and being elderly never feels as old as when your pastor or staff are to afraid to pick up the phone to call since much the same way a face to face visit is outlawed.

Maybe they were protesters taking a break. Some safe distances are more equal than others.

Church attendance is another thing to put on the list of 'What the Virus has Changed' because it puts to the test...why are people going to church anyway? Was it for entertainment? Get your kids out of your hair for an hour or so? Or was it to show off your new suit/new dress/new hairstyle/new hair color?
I think a lot of blue collar workers love to go to church so they can wear a suit and tie, something they can never do at their jobs. Meanwhile, lawyers, bankers, insurance salesmen are looking to make contacts that will bring them more business.

Good point Dr. Tim. Some might even get used to staying at home and do that more often.

Most Americans didn’t go to church before COVID. Why would they go now?
