Most US churches planning a digital Easter
As 93 percent of churches in the United States are holding online-only services due to the new coronavirus outbreak, the majority of the congregations will celebrate Easter digitally, according to two studies.

While 99 percent of churches held services on their campuses on the first weekend of March, only 7 percent did so on March 29, according to Nashville-based LifeWay Research.

“Gathering for worship as a local church is a fundamental expression of the body of Christ, but so are valuing life and loving others,” said Scott McConnell, executive director of LifeWay Research. “As mitigation guidance first impacted large churches, the majority of churches with 200 or more attendees were not meeting by March 15, and only 1% of them met March 22 as guidance continued to shift.” ...

This past Sunday, I listened (online) to three excellent sermons on the resurrection of Christ. The last I heard, this was a fairly significant biblical doctrine.

What a shame that most US churches are planning a digital Easter, when God has not ordained a celebration of Easter, whether digital or not. There are plenty of things in the Bible to focus on without inventing other things. For example, what is the most important thing to our Lord Jesus Christ? What is most on his mind? What does he want his people to get involved in?

Matthew 1:20-21 KJV
(20)  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
(21)  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Mark 16:15-16 KJV
(15)  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
(16)  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

But still there are vast numbers of people in this world who have not one verse of scripture in their own language. Not one.

How would you feel if you were one of those people? And thousands of miles away, the church dances its way into apostasy.

You ought not point your fingers at Mr Spurgeon like that.

We are allowed to worship the word of God, because Jesus is the living word of God.

We are allowed to stalk our lord during the passion week.

We are allowed to celebrate passover just as Jesus did, breaking unleavened bread and understanding the meaning behind it.

John, I suspect this lack of concern about Catholic idolatry, even among Bible-thumping Fundies, started in the UK with the recidivist Oxford Movement, and in the USA with doctrinal decline starting at Harvard on one hand, and mass immigration from Catholic Italy and Ireland on the other, which diluted the cultural influence of Protestantism in addition to its basic apostasy.
Thanks Neil. I'm glad there are others who are living in the real world, and who recognise decline when they see it.

It still doesn't make it a biblical proposition. Easter just isn't in the Bible, never ordained of God; it is not warranted by the apostles. And here is what the early church devoted themselves to:

Acts 2:42 KJV
(42)  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Today it is different. People do not want the apostles' doctrine. They want their DIY Christianity and lots of festal days.

Unless a church is made up entirely of people who have recovered from coronavirus - they should be all meeting on the internet or some similar way of guaranteeing social distance of the congregants ❗
