House Ignores ERA Deadline So It Can Be Deemed Ratified. What Now?
In a move that ignores both logic and basic reading comprehension skills, the House of Representatives passed a resolution Thursday to pretend that the 1982 deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment never existed. The 232 to 183 vote was almost completely along partisan lines. The only exceptions were five GOP House members who sided with Democrats on the vote.
The zombie ERA has become an issue in recent weeks due to Virginia’s becoming the 38th state to ratify the ERA in January, and 38 (three-fourths of the 50 states) ratifications are needed for an amendment to become part of the Constitution. However, not only did the ratification deadline expire decades ago, but four states rescinded their previous ratifications. In order to achieve the 38-state threshold, ERA advocates want to count states that ratified the ERA after the deadline, while not counting states that withdrew their...
Maybe the next step for the House of Reps is to ignore the selection of Nancy Pelosi as head of the whole group? No, it does not surprise me in the least that they are doing this, since they operate with the mindset of 'don't bother me with the facts, my mind is made up'
Douglas Fir, I think it’s strange how many living adults are so in favor of abortion as if they would have preferred to have been aborted themselves as babies. Maybe, in their celebration of death, they will “advance” to the next logical approved terminations of life—suicide, euthanasia, and random mass murder. I guess we are already there even though it’s not all technically legal yet. “Active shooter” is a term prior generations did not have to use on a daily basis. Welcome to the nihilism and sadomasochism of this Satanist “death culture”!
Just another example of people behaving in non-rational ways. Same thing with abortion, which everyone knows kills an unborn human being, but the constant media drumbeat of 'woman's right to choose' and the overlay of total sexual freedm add up to people approving of it, even though their own Catholic Church (for example) is opposed to it.
This is related to “social justice”, “woke”, “LGBTQ+”, and “BLM.” They are actually arguing for equal roles not just equal rights. The feminists of the 70s were trying to get women to play male roles. Females will never successfully play male roles and vice versa. God has established specific male and female roles for humans in His Word. That’s how He created us—women to be women and guys to be guys. Today’s push for “equality” is not really concerned about equality but turning God’s order upside down. It’s a push to see a return to a matriarchal society where women are in control. It’s a push for women to marry women and for men to marry men. It’s a push to push out God and His Creation order of the binary and their respective roles/responsibilities.
Has anyone seen solid modern arguments against the ERA? The arguments of the 1970s are slightly stale and a few made obsolete by the Progressive march to the socialist utopia they seek.
From my viewpoint, this is easily highjacked by the LGBT+ crowd who have made gender fluidity a point of pride. It will tuen into "equal rights" to be whatever gender someone wants to be today, and that's pretty much where we are as a society anyway without new rights being instilled to the Constitution.
Certainly the stay-home mother is denegraded in this Admendment. That is, until she is drafted to defend the nation in a time of crisis. Those two arguments have not changed.
Our lawless government is at it again. The true untouchables, demonstrating their disdain and disrespect as they impose their personal preferences and their will upon the people of this country. They will get away with it, too—as usual.
Doesn't the Senate have to vote first? And aren't there at least several lawsuits about whether ratification can actually be rescinded? There's likely to be a federal injunction against impelementing the Admendment if the courts do anything.
