Franklin Graham banned in Britain!
All seven of the venues in the United Kingdom scheduled to host Franklin Graham, son of the late Billy Graham, have been canceled because of the evangelist's biblically based views on human sexuality and marriage.

"Pastor Graham peddles controversial, repulsive views about LGBT people which are in direct conflict with the values we hold dear in Newcastle," Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes told the local Chronicle Live after the city's Utilita Arena became the latest venue to cancel.

Previously, Graham events were canceled in Birmingham, Newport, Glasgow, Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Liverpool, according to a Pink News report cited by Breitbart News.

Graham said he still intends to tour the U.K. ...

It wasn’t unbelievers chosen before the foundation of the world to be holy before Him, it was those who are in Him (Jesus). These people are believers. God plans for believers to be holy and blameless before Him when we are in His presence. It doesn’t mean He forced any of them to believe. In Romans 9, a outward call is intended, but it only makes sense when you realize he is talking about only those who believed. Everyone is not included.

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."

Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

These are great texts, Adriel.

Who does God glorify? Those who he justifies.

Who does God justify? Those who he calls.

Who does he call?

Now here is an interesting question, and it needs some thought. If an outward gospel call is intended, then all who hear the gospel preached will be justified. But we know this is not the case, so it does not mean that. The only alternative is an inward, secret call, by the Spirit. And this is heard in the heart by those predestined to hear it.

I pray for you if you think I didn’t know who Esau was! I even said he was the son of Isaac. Usually when someone says they aren’t sure what my point is, I try to explain myself better, but not you! Sad I can’t have an adult conversation with someone your age, oh well.

Adriel...

Who is chosen? It is “us”! Who are they? Faithful saints. God chose believers to be holy and blameless before Him. Has that happened? Not yet, but when it does we will be holy and blameless before Him because of Jesus Christ. This is referring to the time when Christ has set up His kingdom and it is given over to the Father. Let’s face it, we aren’t holy and blameless yet. If that happened before the foundation of the world there would have been no need for Jesus to die for our sins.

“That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:10‬

Romans 9 is also looking forward to the time when we are conformed into the image of Jesus who is the firstborn of many brethren. It demonstrates how all things will work together for our good in Christ. It is not saying we were chosen to be saved before time, regardless of faith, or against our wills.

Ha!

J4J, Jacob and Esau were twins. Both came out of the womb of Rebekah and were sons of Isaac. Esau was firstborn but rejected by God so His blessings and promises passed to Jacob. Together they serve as the basis for many figures throughout the bible such as wheat and tares, sheep and goats, children of the promise and children of the flesh, elect and reprobate.

Perhaps your time would be better spent studying the whole bible rather than attempting to defend the indefensible with what appears to be a limited comprehension of the whole. The greatest story ever told resides therein and you are depriving yourself of it.

Have a great day.

I went to NE once to see the Corn Palace and it was burnt down when We got there. That was years ago! I went through there a couple of years ago and there were a ton of whooping cranes all over the place.

Esau was of the seed of Isaac. I’m not sure of your point with that. A leopard can’t change their spots. I have my mind made up about that! You are not literally of the seed of Abraham, I hope you understand the allegory.

Gentiles believers were of the seed of Esau and were converted to the seed of Jacob? I remember you agreeing the leopard could not change his spots. You need to make up your mind.

I don't know about you, J4J, but as a born again Gentile Christian, I was what is known as "not a people of God" (1 Peter 2:10). Therefore I count my seed from Abraham as Paul wrote:

Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

I am numbered with that great multitude that no man could number:

Rev 7:9-10 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

Thanks for the discussion. I'm grateful for for the opportunity to get to the bottom of Isaiah 6:9-10.

“For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭13:15‬

The people closed their eyes because they didn’t want to believe. Correct? Did God bring their blindness about? Yes. Did the Jews not want to believe? Yes. If he Jews wanted to believe, would they have been blinded? No!

Remember, we were all once tares!

“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:10-11‬

We who have believed were all tares until we obeyed and believed the gospel.

You brought up Matthew 13:14-15 as a prooftext in support of your view so let's not wander away from it just yet.

Jesus cited from Isaiah 6:9-10. I had a good idea what it was all about but read what Matthew Henry had to say. The blinding took place prior to the Babylonian captivity and sure enough, God did blind them lest they would repent of their evil upon the distress of going into captivity. God sealed them in their eternal fate through Isaiah's preaching. Instead of repenting they hardened their hearts, shut their eyes and closed their eyes so there was no remedy. That was God's plan and that because they were tares except for a remnant which He redeemed in mercy at the end of captivity.

Parts of this Isaiah text are quoted four times in the NT writings so it has bearing beyond the Babylonian captivity.

The part you are avoiding like the plague is the blinded Jews were tares, they were always tares and there was nothing they could do before or after the blinding to change it. They were of the seed of Esau, not of the elect seed of Jacob. It's all about election and nothing about free will.

...what does sanctification mean? The word, “sanctify” means “to be holy” and comes from a word that means “to be set apart.” The issue of sanctification, then, deals with how Christians can separate themselves from sin and live lives that are pleasing to God. In essence, this issue involves how Christians can live godly lives....

Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification

Theologians often refer to three aspects of salvation. In addition to sanctification there are also justification and glorification. Justification refers to the act by which God declares a believing sinner to be righteous. When a person believes the Gospel, God immediately declares that person to be legally righteous in His sight. This declaration of righteousness is based not on the inherent righteousness of the believing sinner but on the righteousness of Jesus Christ which has been imputed or transferred to the believer. It is important to note that justification is a once for all declaration by God. Though its results continue on, it is a single action that is non-repeatable. The concept of justification can be found in Romans 3:24, 28; 5:1, 9.

Dr. Rugh wrote:
Glorification refers to the transformation of the body that will take place when Jesus Christ returns again for His own people (see Romans 8:17, 30). According to Philippians 3:20-21, when Jesus comes again, He will “transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory.” At the return of Jesus, those who are believers will receive glorious bodies that will never again experience death or decay.

The salvation package of God, therefore, contains three aspects. When a person believes in Christ he is declared righteous by God (justification). The believer then begins a process of becoming more and more like Jesus Christ in his actions and attitudes (sanctification). Finally when Jesus comes again, He is given a transformed, perfected body (glorification)....

No, the leopard can’t change it’s spots, but God can and does change a sinner into a new creation after they believe. Believing and salvation are two different things.

Adriel...

I don’t totally agree with your list, but I do agree that Calvinism is more fatalistic. Faith somehow earning salvation and election are probably the two biggest confusions for Calvinist. Faith is not a work of salvation. Yet Calvinist get butt hurt when someone says they were saved by faith as if the person is saying they earned their salvation. Whenever God selects a person for something like eternal life, that person is said to be elect. However, that selection doesn’t take place until they first believe. God doesn’t elect unbelievers, He selects the faithful unto salvation.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭6:10‬
This is why Jesus spoke in parables. He didn’t want them to understand after first rejecting Him. The decree by God is if you believe, you will receive eternal life. Your text don’t have anything to do with a supposed inability to believe. Rather, they prove that a blindness must take place to keep them from believing and it happens only after God determines those who rejected Him will be punished in that manner.
So if I understand you correctly, the tares growing amongst the wheat could have believed of their own free will and converted themselves to wheat but they refused so God blinded them so they could not become wheat but would be gathered into bundles come judgment day and cast into the fire.

I'm not mocking you, J4J, just taking your theory and applying it to another biblical truth to see if it rings true. Let's try another:

Jer 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

Seems your theory has a glitch.
