What a government sex scandal and a preaching ban tell us about modern Scotland
The Scotland that anyone over 50 grew up in is now almost unrecognizable – at least in spiritual and societal terms. In the past twenty years, I believe we have secularized faster than any nation in human history (although our Irish cousins are doing what they can to beat us in the race to the bottom!). And that has not been a change for the better.
Of course not everyone sees it that way. They believe that we are moving out of the Christian dark ages into a progressive, secular Nirvana. Tom Nairn over 50 years ago summed up the aim clearly: "Scotland will only be reborn when the last minister is strangled with the last copy of the Sunday Post."
His wish has come true. Scotland's clergy have been effectively neutered – the Established Church has now become little more than the spiritual wing of the secular thought police. Christianity is barred in all but name from much of public life – and the...

The Free Church once staunch Reformed and Orthodox is creeping closer to the (Liberalist) C.of S.
The reason seems to be lack of pew fillers. Thus they try to make themselves more acceptable to the modern congregations.
The Free church split some years ago and there is a more "Reformed" Church congregation, from them now called the 'Free Church Continuing.' https://www.freechurchcontinuing.org/ This congregation has branches in the USA and Canada.
The one church who has stuck to the Bible and not burned it with Satan's Liberalism - Is the Free Presbyterian Church.

Scotland is no exception to this tradition and has in fact become particularly secular compared to countries like England. Many scholars point to the post-World War II era as the marker of modern religious decline. Census data shows that church adherence—the proportion of people raised in a religion who remained in that religion—has declined sharply since at least the 1960s. Additionally, where the Church of Scotland and Catholic Church are concerned, retention rates are declining while recruitment rates also remain low. For example, 95% of current Church of Scotland adherents were raised in the faith, while only 5% of adherents are converts. Therefore, as more and more people leave the Church, the institution cannot replace the lost members....

Yes! That sounds about right.
What I would add is that the Church of Scotland is neutered by its new modern religion of worldly Liberalism.
The Liberalists in the church wouldn't know the Bible from the bus timetable. They are politically correct and Eph 4:18. - "Ignorant, blind and alienated from the life of God."
They are people who have a human conviction and sin pretends to them that it is 'faith' - It's not!
May GOD have mercy upon this United Kingdom of Sodom and Gomorrah, and remember the Remnant.
Jude :4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."
