REMEMBERING JOHN C. WHITCOMB, 1924–2020
On Feb. 4, John C. Whitcomb Jr.—theologian, Old Testament scholar, and one of the principal founders of the modern creationism movement—passed away at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was 95. From his strong convictions on Biblical inerrancy to his legacy as a leading young earth creationist, Whitcomb’s life and ministry reflected an unswerving devotion to the Word of God.

While Whitcomb will primarily be remembered for his contributions to creationism, his expertise in Biblical studies and theology extended far beyond the pages of Genesis 1—3. In his many decades of ministry, he labored to teach “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27) with clarity and conviction. “I want to be known, if for anything, as a Bible expositor,” Whitcomb once said in an interview with Paul Scharf. “Creation is absolutely essential, but it is not sufficient for a God-ordained teacher. I want to be balanced in my ...

The RIP farewell to the dead derives from the RC wish for their dead to be free from any possible torment in the uncertainty of the after death.
On a railway arch not far from Rugby in Warwickshire, I saw that someone had painted the following: Sid Vicious - Rest in Peace.

And I thought to myself, "Sid is not at rest, and he is certainly not at peace, where he has gone; for he has arrived securely in hell where he will be punished for his sins, in torment and with no further opportunity to change tack."

And I felt very grateful that the Lord did not choose to leave me in mine own sins, but brought me up out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and put a new song in my mouth, even praise to my God.

Sister B,

THBCC, since you insist on copying and pasting your stuff over and over again, I am no longer going to read even the first issue, let alone the other copies. Apparently you have nothing more original to say than Jim Lincoln does.

You are right, Joel, but I still understand deeply John UK's feelings of loss. The Lord had gifted the generations before us with significant and solid preachers and teachers of the word of God. Will there be others to replace them? Who will stand up for righteousness, truth, and justice based on the Holy and inspired word?
But then those questions come back to each of us - what is our individual roles in sharing the truth of God's word? We may not be a Dr. Whitcomb or a Dr. Henry Morris, but we still have a job to do. May the Lord send each of us to do the good works He has set before us and enable us to do them for His glory. “Despise not the day of small things. “In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”

It was our privilege to have John Whitcomb and his wife Norma stay with us in our home when we organised a Creationist conference in Sydney some years ago. It was a delight - and not forgetting Norma's work also as seen in her book The Mysterious Dinosaurs. What a memorable legacy he has left in his labours over years to the glory of God.

You know if there were a long line of pastors and bible teachers that is historically does make us look like a young country. C I Scofield was a confederate army deserter, turned lawyer, stayed alcoholic, abandoned wife and children, bankrupt vagabond, then he got saved. Developed a reference bible. Served a church in Dallas, handed it off to Lewis Sperry Chafer, who started a bible college ( later rebadged Dallas Theological Seminary), Then handed college off to John Walvvord who died 2002. From the civil war to 9/11. Incredible.

Inerrancy -
By Grace .....

"But there are a great number of supremely important truths that the material universe con never reveal to the searching eye of man, even if he could bring an unfallen mind and a pure heart to the investigation of its wonders. It is for this reason that God, in His infinite grace and love, has given to us in the Bible the supreme and only authoritative revelation concerning the Persons of the Trinity, the original creation, the nature of man, the Fall and Edenic curse, the Tower of Babel, the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants, the miracles of Moses, prophets, the incarnation, atoning death, and bodily resurrection of Christ, ..... Second Coming of Christ, the future judgments, heaven and hell, and many other vitally important truths that are completely outside the scope of scientific investigation. In other words, cosmogony, cosmology, and metaphysics, in the ultimate sense of these terms (and no other sense is truly valid) are impossible apart from God's special revelation in Scripture! The true scientist, therefore, no less than the true theologian, must confess with David: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path ••• in thy light shall we see light" (Psa. 119:105) "
(John C WHITCOMB)
