Trump acquitted of both charges in Senate impeachment trial
The Senate on Wednesday voted to acquit President Donald Trump of both counts in his impeachment trial.

Forty-eight senators, including one Republican, found Trump guilty of abuse of power, while 52, all Republicans, voted to acquit him.

The president was also impeached on the charge of obstruction of Congress, in which all 53 Republicans found him not guilty and the remaining 47 senators voted to convict.

It remains to be seen whether or not Trump will win a second term in November. Will has made it abundantly clear that he would love to see Trump voted out of office, although he would much prefer that Democrats nominate a centrist presidential candidate like Vice President Joe Biden or Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota than a staunch liberal/progressive such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders — who has been surging in recent polls on the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary.

But whatever the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, Will believes that Trump’s impeachment trial makes voters more knowledgeable.
“The impeachment process has produced granular details about what the president did regarding Ukraine, and about his manner of doing things, and about the grifters he attracts just as magnets attract iron filings,” Will asserts....

In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate—look to his character…It is alleged by men of loose principles, or defective views of the subject, that religion and morality are not necessary or important qualifications for apolitical stations. But the Scriptures teach a different doctrine. They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness…

When a citizen gives his vote to a man of known immorality, he abuses his civic responsibility; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor; he betrays the interest of his country.

Wow, I never quite stayed in the loop about the impeachment process so not too sure what to think about it all yet. I don't think I have enough information to take a solid stance yet. Definitely interested in figuring out where I fit in though... Where did all the arguing come from?? Haha!

If evangelicals were to consult their past, they would find that their times of greatest positive influence — in late-18th-century and early-19th-century Britain, or mid-19th-century America — came when they were truest to their religious calling. It was not when they acted like another political interest group. The advocates of abolition, prison reform, humane treatment of the mentally disabled and women’s rights were known as malcontents in the cause of human dignity.

Today, far too many evangelicals are seen as angry and culturally defensive, and have tied their cause to a leader who is morally corrupt and dehumanizes others. Older evangelicals — the very people who should be maintaining and modeling moral standards — have ignored and compromised those standards for political reasons in plain view of their own children. And disillusionment is the natural result.

Jim, your obvious hatred of Donald Trump isn’t exactly “Christian” either. I’m sure you don’t see the hypocrisy in that. Maybe you would if you read it in a liberal journal.

Tony, do you mean like the National Prayer Breakfast?
Michael Gerson wrote:
At the 68th, and perhaps last, National Prayer Breakfast, the main remarks were made by the former president of the American Enterprise Institute (and Post columnist) Arthur C. Brooks, who spoke on the themes of his wonderful 2019 book “Love Your Enemies.” President Trump then prefaced his speech by saying: “Arthur, I don’t know if I agree with you. But I don’t know if Arthur’s going to like what I’m going to say.”...

...The prayer breakfast was intended to foster personal connections across party differences. Trump turned it into a performative platform to express his rage and pride — the negation of a Christian ethic. Democrats have every right and reason to avoid this politicized event next year....

Don’t understand why the scripture quoted by Jim wasn’t used by the Democratic Party for Donald Trump instead of constantly harassing and bellyaching and never seeing the good he has accomplished. His State of Union Address was the best I have heard. It’s stupidly and I saw on Fox News a video of her starting a small rip on each page In readiness of the ta da final tear. What a performance.😂

Glad to see you quoting something resembling scripture, Jim, even if it is translated from inaccurate Greek texts and has no bearing on the matter under discussion. Here’s a verse for you: “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” For the past three years, Mr. Trump has been trying to build something: a better America for this generation and those to come. Meanwhile, the Democrats haven’t made any effort to do anything constructive. All they do is attempt to tear down everything the president does. The reason they do that is obvious: they are fools.

He was impeached, Timothy, what part of that you don't understand❓
Impeach basically means accuse. That is the job of the House of Reps. He was accused. Trial is by the Senate. He was acquitted. See how simple it is, Jim?

Romans 12:19-21

19. Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.” 20. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21. Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

He was acquitted, Jim. Found not guilty. What part of that don’t you understand?
I would guess the part that said not guilty. Jim says he was guilty by his own mouth, but doesn't post the quotations to enlighten us. As in the actual phone conversation that got it going. Like most Democrat Democrats and "independent" Democrats, Jim feels just saying something makes it so.

I don't like Trump's hair. It's not presidential. Romney has presidential hair. If I was a Democrat, I would praise Romney for his independence. But it would really be about the hair.

Now that the Senate has fulfilled its constitutional responsibility, bringing this process to a conclusion, I want to say again to the American people how profoundly sorry I am for what I said and did to trigger these events and the great burden they have imposed on the Congress and on the American people.
I also am humbled and very grateful for the support and the prayers I have received from millions of Americans over this past year.
Now I ask all Americans, and I hope all Americans, here in Washington and throughout our land, will rededicate ourselves to the work of serving our nation and building our future together.
This can be and this must be a time of reconciliation and renewal for America. Thank you very much....

What❗ the above wasn't a quote from that newly-minted Christian Donald Trump, but was actually a quote from Wild Willy Clinton.

Timothy, they really did need any witnesses on, was guilty from his own mouth❗👎

Impeaching Nancy would be demeaning to the peaches.

I think the US taxpayers should simply send her and the rest of the house of reps the bill for the proceedings.
