Iran launches large attack on U.S.-led forces in Iraq, Pentagon says
Iran has launched a major ballistic missile attack on U.S.-led forces in Iraq, the U.S. military said on Tuesday, potentially triggering a new round of escalation in the confrontation between the United States and Tehran.
The U.S. military said an assessment was underway to determine damage and any casualties at al-Asad airbase in Iraq, which hosted President Donald Trump in December of 2018, as well as at another facility in Erbil.
In a statement, the U.S. military said Iran launched the attack at about 1:30 am local time, firing more than a dozen ballistic missiles against U.S.-led forces in Iraq....
It’s like a jock dealing with a mentally handicapped kid that’s acting out. The jock could beat the kid down, but knows deep down it would be unfair and mean—because everyone wants to feel sorry for the handicapped kid. Sometimes it’s a better man that lets the mentally handicapped kid make a spectacle of himself and walk away—(except sometimes they accidentally do real damage to something because they just don’t have the sense to know what they are doing.) For what it’s worth, Trump is a jock that decided to smack the mentally handicapped kid around a bit. It looks bad, but it’s because he was trying to make sure he didn’t do any damage. But of course, everyone thinks he’s mean and out of control.
Well, Mike Lee and Rand Paul walked out of a military briefing and were told to “ not debate or in flame Iran with discussions about further military action”- And watching Trump speak with military brass looking like they all wanted to retire or resign said enough. Once again, I’m back to pondering the president’s mental fitness.
Seems like this strike, against fixed targets well known, was all the Iranians could muster. Getting a top guy ambushed at the airport probably sends major shockwaves thru Iranian leadership. Soleimani wasn't in his backyard having a catch. And any Iranian offensive into Iraq suddenly lacks a safe footing. If they couldn't secure Soleimani, who can they secure?
