Iowa man sentenced to 16 years for setting LGBTQ flag on fire
An Ames man was sentenced Wednesday to about 16 years in prison after he set fire to a church's LGBTQ flag in June.
Adolfo Martinez, 30, of Ames, was found guilty last month of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights — hate crime, third-degree harassment, and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender.
He was arrested after stealing a pride banner hanging at Ames United Church of Christ, 217 6th St., and burning it early June 11 outside Dangerous Curves Gentleman’s Club, 111 5th St., police said....
Because so many only read the headlines, it has become the easy way to spread "fake" news - specially by the main stream media. Understood. Your headline in this instance is a good example of how they do it and get away with it. I'm sure you can do better!

REAL Christians need to start a petition for this mans appeal and defense this is a plainly seen abuse of the LGBTs abuse of the judicial system and how there trampling on our freedoms this man deserved probation at most and maybe a fine // this is pathetic what about the constant trampling of Jesus Christ how come nobody is getting sixteen years for there constant degrading hate speech like that fake church pretending to be Christians everyone in that church needs to be arrested then for putting that banner on there church and lying to the public about being Christians
Suspected but not confirmed. For stealing a beloved banner for the beloved leaders of the lgbq society. Sounds like the a case of Otto Warmbier , but at least Mr. Martinez won’t be treading freezing water in a twenty foot pool from sunup to sundown till he drowns.
I see this piece of cloth was stolen from a United Church of Christ- - only slightly less liberal than the Unitarian Church. One reason this man got the sentence he did is right in the description that SA has, but this is from the article directly:
"Court records list him as a habitual offender, allowing him to be sentenced to a longer prison term."
