New York passes Johnson Amendment barring churches from political speech
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill into law that prohibits churches and other nonprofits from campaigning for or against political candidates.

Cuomo signed Senate Bill S4347 last week, creating a state-level equivalent to the current federal Johnson Amendment, which bans electioneering among nonprofits.

In a statement released last Wednesday, Cuomo said he felt the law was necessary in response to efforts by the Trump administration to weaken the Johnson Amendment.

“For too long we have listened to the Trump administration threaten to remove common sense protections prohibiting tax exempt organizations from engaging in inappropriate political activities,” Cuomo said. ...

I'm for that.

The Holy Spirit gives discernment to any man willing to do the will of God. Not pastors having their own biases.

There are pastors in the South who believe certain others are descendants of apes. There are pastors in the North who believe only certain others have biblical knowledge. There are pastors who support candidates regardless of their relationship with the one true and living holy God who support candidates based on outward appearances. There are pastors who, although regenerated, gravitate towards those who most likely resemble themselves, or have the same earthly values.

Civil governments are ordained by God for the unruly, lawless individual who, like a horse, need bits, bridle, spurs, and whips to steer them in the right direction.

When our Lord is given pre emminence in the church he purchased with his own blood, hearers are humbled and drawn to the one lifted up; so that men will be saved.

We, the servants of God, would see Jesus. Not another who comes in his own name or the name of one who does not see the hearts of all sinful man. Only God knows the lustful and lust-filled hearts of all men.

Who wants to hear the names of Cory Booker, Mitch McConnell or Trump when gathered for worship or fellowship with the holy. Psalm 133.

Today that same area of the state is known as the "Burnt Over District" and has very little interest in Christ or the Bible.
The state might even be majority Catholic by now.
The only reason NYS is liberal is because NYC is hanging off one end, and it has as many people as the rest of the State. Maybe more. The "burnt over district" isn't liberal, though there are pockets of that disease within it. The statement that the district has little interest in Christ or the Bible isn't based on fact.

Jim, you’re a bad reader and fail to take correction. As you’ve been told before, Christ’s Kingsom is not of this world, but “of” isn’t “for”. Very obviously, His kingdom is for this world.
In Jim's mixed-up world, Christians are not supposed to be involved in politics. Yet he spends so much time promoting one end of the political spectrum, and sees no conflict with his call that Christians should be covered by universal government healthcare.

Well, Jim, you have treated us to two quotes from the atheistic Freedom from Religion Foundation, showing your true colors. Who will you quote next? Anton LaVey?
Ah, Timothy, I must not have put this up often enough for your benefit?❗👍

John 18:36-37
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world. Then Pilate said to him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice. ---ESV

As far as I'm concerned that's another fellow pointed out churches do not have to participate in a 501c program, and they might as well be honest about it and just pay their taxes. Now that would in the argument about this program. say, I can't help it if the FfRF is more honest about rendering unto Caesar than many churches are

It appears to me that religion and politics are inseparable. Liberals believe it’s right and loving to turn little boys into girls, they express that in their laws and policy - including politics. Christians believe it’s right and loving to protect unborn children from being aborted. They express it in their laws and policies - including politics. I’m looking forward to the day when those who say they believe God and His Word, consistently demonstrate it with their actions. Including law, policy and politics. Now, I’m no historian nor have I attained the years of my fathers, yet I believe America was once a God blessed nation because that’s what Christians did. We now cower in the corner pretending not to have opinions, while humanists take our taxes to abort our grandchildren and castrate our neighbors children. We are now under judgement.

That's quite a broad statement Frank, would that include the majority of broadcasters on SermonAudio?

Cuomo is just preaching to the choir. Sorry Mike, but I’d be more alarmed by a court in Dallas instituting a gag order on a father’s right to question his ex wife’s social torture experiment with his son, turning their son into thinking he’s a girl. My question to the good doctor is, could it be your son has autism and is susceptible to your influence for a make believe world? Exploiting the disabled is a federal crime.

It is NOT the government’s job to regulate what anyone says. The more the government gets involved with anything the worse it becomes. Can we as Americans take on a little bit of personal responsibility and use our own discernment to not support someone or a political party instead of needing the gov to do everything for us?

501c3 doesn't force churches to signup.
The 501c3 guidelines clearly say:
The IRS also prevents organizations (even churches) from making official ties to political campaigns including candidate endorsements. 501c3 is under government control. If you sell your church out to the government, don't be shocked when the government exercises it's control over you, they pay for you.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

“”New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill into law that prohibits churches and other nonprofits from campaigning for or against political candidates.“”

Poor old Cuomo is running scared of the Christians.
Or is he scared of another 4 Trump years??

Or just scared of the voters kicking the Liveralist- socialists in to touch again?

Liberalist, Socialist, communist governments ruin nations and their freedoms. It’s the worst political mistake which voters can make.
But - This is a fallen world. Satan is allowed to have influence over reprobate hearts and heads.

And of course Cuomo and every Democrat running for office in 2020 will show up in the pulpits preaching their swill to the congregants.
