John MacArthur skewers Beth Moore, Paula White, evangelicals who support women preachers
Lamenting what he sees as a heretical “plunge” away from biblical order, Pastor John MacArthur, who leads Grace Community Church in California, skewered popular Bible teacher Beth Moore, President Donald Trump’s spiritual adviser Paula White and evangelicals who support the idea of women preachers in general.

“I think the church is caving in to women preachers. Just the other day the same thing happened with Paula White. A whole bunch of leading evangelicals endorsed her new book. She’s a heretic and a prosperity preacher, three times married. What are they thinking?” MacArthur said of the televangelist who chairs the evangelical advisory board of the Trump administration during the “Truth Matters Conference,” held Oct. 16-18 at Grace Community Church. MacArthur’s 50th year in pulpit ministry was also celebrated during the event. ...

Rev. 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

After hearing John Cain's (from the band Journey) conversion testimony, I purchased a CD of his Christian music. Since then I have been drowned in mail from Paula White ministries. Guess it helps to have a spouse who is well known.

Which one of these women were preachers? We cannot justify going against the teachings of scripture by saying, "God can use anyone." Read the Bible and not your feelings...

Today it is very common to see women lifted up, encouraged to do more, etc.
There are now more women going to college than men.
Thus, we can say 'the world' is in complete contrast to the Bible (as if, in the 1950s with the stay-at-home moms in TV series like "Father Knows Best" and "Leave it to Beaver" we could say the world was walking in line with the Bible).
Thus, we see how the verses in 1 Timothy 5 were about widows (just like James 1:27 that says real religion is taking care of widows, but here and in many other places, you will find some Christians much more interested in debating A vs. B or C vs. D. For them 'real religion' is debating others. The Bible, here, James 1:27, does not agree with them.) but if you study Paul here and in his other letters, you will see this is all part of a Christian society. A good sermon series would use these verses and be called "God's Vision for a Christian Society."
Principle 1: families should support their own widows so that the church can help those who have no families. Paul even says those who do not help their own families are worse than unbelievers!
Principle 2: the church should help widows in need, but only if they have done good works like 'washing the feet of the saints.' The aid is not automatic.

Thanks for the response, DF. No, I am definitely not a dentist. There aren’t enough teeth here in Possum Hollow to keep a dentist off of the welfare rolls. Which reminds me, we haven’t heard from Christopher lately. I guess he’s been busy brushing his tooth.
BTW, our church does support two widows in accordance with I Timothy 5, so not every church ignores its teaching.

And the turning point will be when SBC churches all across the country go from putting women on staff, to calling them ministers. In my town , I hear where female family ministers go on hospital visits or visit shut ins and then don’t understand why when , a woman shows up at your hospital room , it’s like listening to a sermon using the Message, all bread, no meat.
But what’s worse is that the current “CEO manager lead pastor” is driving us to the edge of the cliff, because of #metoo? ( not news anymore ), waiting on old folks to die, and alienating families and men in particular. Beth Moore is a heretic, as much as Gene Robinson.

1 Timothy 5 is mostly ignored today, except for the verse about paying teaching elders.
Yet it contains lessons about family and church that are still applicable but ignored. Why is that? Check your own church's teaching schedule to see when it was last preached on.
By the way, "Dr. Tim," are you a dentist or ...?

Doug, I’m not criticizing, but just curious. Why do you keep returning to the theme of scriptural treatment of widows?

It sounds like he has been reading the Bible, especially 1 Timothy 5 that gives us instructions on how a Christian Society should be ordered. Some see it as only applying to widows, but in relation to them there are many guidelines, like families should support families before the church ever helps them. And widows to be 'put on the list' (for church help) should meet certain requirements like doing good works, 'washing the feet of the saints' etc.
It is a shame these key verses are ignored today, or 'explained away' by saying, 'well, that was OK for Paul's time, but it won't work today.' Really? But these same people are fast to hold up the later verse in that same chapter that says teaching elders should receive payment from the church.

Well, as Phil Johnson explained it, a member of John MacArthur's staff:
Phil Johnson wrote:
....
But the Bible also says, “Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9–10). In short, all sin carries the threat of eternal doom, and some particularly heinous sins have a built-in hardening effect that makes them particularly dangerous. Scripture occasionally singles out common sins that have this peculiarly soul-destroying effect.

On the other hand, only one very specific sin is ever said to be unforgivable. Any sin that is repented of is forgivable. Immediately after declaring all fornicators, drunkards, and swindlers unfit for heaven, the apostle writes, “Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11). After saying, “Whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven,” Jesus famously forgave Peter, who denied Him before men....
