Pompeo faces criticism for giving speech on being a 'Christian leader'
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is facing criticism for talking publicly about what it's like to be a “Christian leader” in a speech that was that posted to the State Department’s website over the weekend.

On Friday, Pompeo spoke at the American Association of Christian Counselors’ World Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. In a speech titled “Being a Christian Leader,” Pompeo told the counselors that just like them, he draws on the “wisdom of God” to help him “be a force for good in the life of human beings.”

“Now, I know that even having just said that, I know some people in the media will break out the pitchforks when they hear that I ask God for direction in my work,” he said. “But you should know, as much as I’d like to claim originality, it is not a new idea. I love this quote from President Lincoln. He said, quote: ‘I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction ...

Perhaps this opinion piece will explain why Pompeo would want to quit his present job as mentioned in previous posting?

Rev. Eric Atcheson wrote:
To hear Pompeo describe it, service as a Christian leader comes down to three d-words: disposition, dialogue and decisions. Pompeo buttresses these three characteristics with sprinklings of Scripture and amusing anecdotes, but in so doing, he boxes up Christianity and its teachings in a way that insulates him from applying Christian ethics any further than he absolutely must.

But this is precisely the difficulty with Pompeo publicly styling himself as a leader who takes his cues from the New Testament. It takes a strong sense of compartmentalization to square Christianity’s ethical demands for truth-telling, integrity and human rights with the Trump White House’s elastic relationship with the truth, comfortableness with corruption and cavalier attitude toward human rights....

excerpt from, " Pompeo’s ‘Christian leader’ speech goes only as far as Trump allows"

Perhaps, my, this is more specific and what mr. Pompeo is not doing?

Truth be known, Mike, I don't know if I can put my finger on specifics or not quickly. I know mr. Pompeo was a Koch protege and you can find that on the internet quite quickly.

Apparently he has realized he is not in Kansas anymore, and may want to get back. (Amid Trump attack on his diplomats, Pompeo travels to Kansas, fueling Senate run speculation)

That claim is incredible, given your past history of posts. And you're a Dominionist yourself, only the Israeli/Zionist kind.

If you don't believe in reforming people by force, then prisons should be closed. After all, that was their original purpose (e.g. Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon).

Jiminy Clickit wrote: “God! Spare us from ‘Christian’ leaders!”
Meaning, of course, that Jim wants more hellish leaders like Clinton and Obama. He wants anti-Christian leaders like the current crop of Democratic presidential candidates. He wants leaders who will exalt sin and destroy the nation, not leaders who will exalt Christ and save it.

I don't know if you're fixated on Fox news, but this is where this particular article comes from, so it is safe for many of you who consider Fox news gospel to safely read. 👍

Some of the previous authors that I quoted from, actually consider Catholics Christian. However, trying to reform any person through force--isn't Christian 👎

Philip, the following article does an excellent job pointing out when the United State was in its Dominionist phase.
Jim, I can find no evidence from your excerpt that Henry Lea knew or cared about any sort of "Protestant supremacy." Alluding to a Biblical parable, as many writers of the day did, proves nothing.

I could come up with more pertinent quotes from Protestants of that era, if I wished. Yet even so, none of this proves anything useful about Pompeo's beliefs. I think you simply don't like Repubs saying they're Christians.

Philip, the following article does an excellent job pointing out when the United State was in its Dominionist phase. There are Bible verses that attacked that❗👎

F. X. Rocca wrote:
A HUNDRED years ago The Atlantic Monthly published "The Decadence of Spain," by the historian Henry Charles Lea. In ten pages Lea traced the collapse of the world's first global empire, explaining it as essentially the result of "pride, conservatism, and clericalism." These national characteristics had led Spaniards to despise useful labor, ignore the development of industrial technology, and stifle intellectual and political liberty. As a result, their country had lost most of its vast conquests and now stood to lose the rest: "Spain has made of her colonies the buried talent, and the fulfillment of the parable must come to pass."...

God! Protect us from "Christian" leaders❗

I, Michael Pompeo, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; That I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

Now, since no one would say our Constitution is infallible like scripture, what does Pompeo do if something in the Constitution or the Amendments conflicts with scripture?

The evil of the world and Satan that controls the ones that do the evil are the ones we have to deal with by God’s hand upon us to do so. Whether we believe this or not we are in a spiritual warfare. Do we really know what is happening here when Isis attacks and kills innocent people ?? It’s not because they are in any danger of being abused or attacked themselves but because their Muslim god and their religious beliefs tell them to kill the infidels which includes Jews, Christians and anyone else that doesn’t believe the way they do. If they die by blowing themselves up in a public place and kill Ihundreds of innocent people, including children, they go to heaven and are given 7 virgins and their families would be given money. How crazy is that??!! We have to somehow put the fire out and so we have done what needs to be done. I hate war just like most people do and so thankful for a Christian like Pompeii to be a part of the team against evil with his prayers to a loving and just God.

We shouldn't be policing the world. You must be pleased that Trump agrees. As for Israel, what are they doing that you have issues with?

I don't know Sec Pompano not have I heard much about him. But I can say that whomever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. How that works out in a man's life as one with huge say over US foreign policy is a tough question. Are there specifics anyone who like to bring out?

US foreign policy, Phillip, is not the best example of living out Biblical concepts.

There are few examples of men with saving faith in the Bible who were leaders in government. Moses, Joshua, many of the Judges, David, Solomon maybe?, some of the following kings of Judah, Daniel and his cohorts. Many went to war. A few, like Daniel, oversaw the governance of a non-believing country & nation. Daniel is the best although imperfect parallel we can draw to Mike Pompano. Neither he nor the nation he serves is perfect, but that's not the definition of saving faith.

President William McKinley had been in a quandry for some time as to what to do with the Philippines.... Finally, as a visiting delegation of the General Missionary Committee of the Methodist Episcopal Church was about to leave..., the president explained his reasons for deciding to retain the Philippines.... night late it came to me this way - I don't know how it was, but it came: (1) That we could not give them back to Spain - that would be cowardly and dishonorable; (2) that we could not turn them over to France or Germany - our commercial rivals in the Orient - that would be bad business and discreditable; (3) that we could not leave them to themselves - they were unfit for self-government - and they would soon have anarchy and misrule over there worse than Spain's was; and (4) that there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God's grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow men for whom Christ also died.  And then I went to bed and went to sleep and slept soundly."
