Wolf Resurgence in Washington State Tests Limits of Civility
The wolves, nearly nonexistent in the northwestern state for almost a century, have grown in numbers about 28% each year since 2008, about a decade after they were introduced to Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. By late last year, Washington had at least 126 wolves and 27 packs.

The wolves’ resurgence has brought cheers from conservationists, who view them as symbolic, charismatic creatures that can improve the state’s ecosystems and jeers from ranchers and livestock owners, who see them as killers that threaten their livelihoods.

Now, with wolves expected to reach their targeted recovery levels in a few years, the debate over how to manage the population is intensifying. Officials recently canceled three public meetings about wolves after threats of violence and disruption. ...

As QC pointed out, these people are not conservationists, but environmentalists. Hypocritically, the same say leave nature alone, yet move wolves hundreds of miles, and do not let nature take its course. No adaptation to the environment allowed. To them, survival of the fittest means help the wolf survive where it no longer fits, then pass laws protecting them from stronger predators, ones who can think. Pagan earth-worshippers disguised as protectors of animal life.

DF, foxes will take care of feral cats and pet ones as well.

Wolves should be in the west...

But not these wolves...

When liberals introduced wolves into the west, they didn't reintroduce the previous type that was there. They took Canadian wolves atnd brought them down south...

The problem with this, is that these Canadian wolves had become perfectly adapted to the harsh, scarce food, frigid environment of the Canadian wilderness. Bringing them down to the states brought out behavior that is extremely dangerous for the area. In Canada, the scarcity of food made them very conservative with the kills they made. If they killed it, they ate all of it. The over abundance of ranches (and food) down south has made them literally attack animals simply for fun of it...

It would sort of be like if you took Chriss000 from that Wendy's dumpster and brought him to Mississippi. he wouldn't really know what to do with all abundance of food around him and probably waste it...

I guess these wolves will take care of the problem with feral cats that are eating all the birds and other small wildlife.
Anyone who keeps a cat at home but lets it outside has to realize they are doing the same hunting, no matter how well they are fed.

....Wolves, she found, were a proxy for other fears, such as fading traditions and a loss of control to Seattle progressives. "Sometimes," she says, "a dispute has surface-level issues, and that can be taxes or climate change or, in this case, wolves. But it's all about identity."

In the end, Madden spent 200 days in Washington state and 7,000 hours on the phone. (For 3 1/2 years of work, the state paid her nonprofit, with a staff of two, more than $1.2 million.) Conservationists eventually agreed that wolves could be culled if they preyed on livestock. For their part, ranchers agreed to try nonlethal methods, too. Like young apprentices, they learned Madden's ways, and when problems arise they can go back to the "tool kit" she left for them. "Things would be far worse had she not come out here," says Paula Swedeen, policy director of the Seattle-based Conservation Northwest. "I've built relationships with people. I'm definitely a western Washington, progressive Democrat, but I've figured out how to make friends in eastern Washington."...

Apparently East can meet West, when it's Washington State anyway 👍

Ultimately, the issue raises a very good question -- what does good Stewardship of creation look like in this case in which we attempt to balance the created order against our neighbor's lawful and useful livelihood?

Seems like a potential flashpoimt. On the one side are environmentalists (not conservationists) who cannot tolerate the removal of one wolf from the environment. On the other are ranchers and farmers who can't afford to lose livestock to predation by wolves or other top predators. Both sides Wil, refuse to give an inch. The wolves were eradicated based on predation of livestock (and children) so giving in to agriculture is a no go. Wolves do present a threat, but probably minimal at the target level. Solving this one will need the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job.

From the worldview standpoint, I feel it pits the Progressive against the Conservative and the Gaia worshipper against the farmer.
