Christianity goes 'illegal' with 'sanctuary denomination'
The 2019 Evangelical Lutheran Church of America's Churchwide Assembly has voted to join the politics of "sanctuary" cities, counties and states, becoming the first "sanctuary church body" in the country.
But the impact of the decision still is being worked out.
The denomination said in its recent announcement that a "sanctuary church the ELCA is committed to serving and supporting migrant children and families in communities across the country."
The vote came shortly after hundreds of church leaders joined in a march and prayer vigil that ended up at the Milwaukee Immigration and Customs Enforcement office....
"The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran church body in the United States, allows for LGBTQ+ marriage and ordination of LGBTQ+ clergy. ELCA policy states that LGBTQ+ individuals are welcome and encouraged to become members and to participate in the life of the congregation. The ELCA has provided supplemental resources for the rite of marriage in Evangelical Lutheran Worship which use inclusive language and are suitable for use in LGBTQ+ marriage ceremonies. The group ReconcilingWorks supports the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ members in Lutheran churches in the ELCA," (Wiki)
Perhaps this is the thinking/ideology behind ELCA and its new immigrants policy.
Breaking rules and disobedience seems to be familiar to them.
