Robot priests more acceptable to Protestants than Catholics, says professor
Ilia Delio, a professor of Christian Theology at Villanova University, offered Vox some fascinating thoughts about this.

Instead of trying to persuade Catholic worshippers that priests are somehow divinely consecrated, she said, perhaps the existence of robot priests would offer a new perspective on being a good person to deserve eternal life.

"We have these fixed philosophical ideas and AI challenges those ideas. It challenges Catholicism to move toward a post-human priesthood," she said.

Perhaps some would feel enchanted at being offered spiritual guidance by a robot. Perhaps they'd think this was far better than the same old stuff Father Seamus has peddled for the last 20 years. ...

The reason that Catholic should be less happy with robots is for giving sacraments, they just can't perform the black magic thata live priests can.

Unfortunately, many Catholics don't realize that priests' black magic lacks efficacy also

Interesting exercise to compare 1950s with today. Looking backwards can be just as interesting. An easy way to do that is to look at TV shows of that time. "Perry Mason" is a good one, and smoking is one thing that stands out for me. They were always lighting up! And it reminds me of many objects not seen anymore: remember those huge ashtrays and lighters on desks and coffee tables? Didn't anyone notice the stench in the clothes, carpeting, air?
And then, the cars! Huge, and no seat belts!

Formalistic, pushbutton/coin-op worship is more in line with Catholicism, Anglicanism, Shinto, and Buddhism; no surprise that the Rosary resembles Buddhist prayer beads. To these people, God is a bellhop or servant since they deny His sovereignty.
BTW, contrary to the news item title, the remark about Protestants was in jest. But at least robots don't [yet] molest women and children.
Good comment Neil! In regards to your last comment regarding molestation; it would depend on who does the programming of the AI.

Amen, YIA. That's a very accurate descriptiin of what is happening today. Mr. Cahn's voice joins many others who have said the same over the years. It's a downward spiral of increasing speed and severity until that sudden stop at the end.

I'm reading a book by Jonathan Cahn called Paradign, and he makes a good point:

"“If a person living in 1950s America was given the power to see into the future as to what would be shown on the television screens of present-day America, it would appear to them as apocalyptic.”

"“The nation, culture, and civilization that had been established on the Word of God and dedicated to the ways of God will begin to depart from the God of its foundation. The departure will begin subtly at first, but as time goes on, it will become more and more blatant and brazen. “As the nation and civilization turns away from God, it will turn to idolatry to fill the void. It will deify the material world. Thus it will grow increasingly materialistic and increasingly obsessed with the sensual.”
