Myanmar: Pastor facing imprisonment for revealing horrors of religious persecution
A Baptist minister from Myanmar who spoke with President Donald Trump about being “oppressed and tortured by the Myanmar military government” during a visit to the White House could be prosecuted for his comments.

Pastor Hkalam Samson, president of the Kachin Baptist Convention and a leading rights advocate for a predominantly Baptist ethnic group in northern Myanmar known as the Kachin, was part of a group of international religious leaders that recently met with the president to express concerns about religious freedom in their home countries.

“As Christians in Myanmar, we are oppressed and tortured by the Myanmar military government,” Samson said. “We don’t have chance, many, for religious freedom.” ...

Jim is displaying the Progressives' view of foreign policy championing civil rights.

I encourage you to spend more time reading your ESV than all your linked sources, Jim.

Timothy, I have only read one article from this person who apparently is a contributor to the Shreveport newspaper. It is good article. How good is other articles maybe I have no idea

In any event, he has a better view point about church and government and this particular article then rhe Jesse Jackson from Myamar/Burma

Jim , I assume you’re talking about the same Prentiss Smith who said, “Vote Blue, no matter who!” So if Satan ran on the Democratic ticket—which of course he would, since he and they stand for the same things—we should all vote for the devil, right? Say, come to think of it, that’s exactly what YOU have been saying, isn’t it?

The writer of the immediately preceding article knows about what he speaks. his father pastor wouldn't let any politician speak from the pulpit ❗

By the way the URL got cut off, so the correct one is above. The article is excellent.

As far as I'm concerned I can give the person from Burma political asylum. we have often given politicians asylum, and it usually is a good idea.

Prentiss Smith wrote:
There are a lot of Americans, especially millennials and other young people, who don’t believe religion and politics mix very well, and I agree with them. The notion of separation of church and state has served this country well for almost 240 plus years. I am not saying there is no place for God in the public square, because I understand that the Constitution was written by men who believed in God or who believed that God exists, but I am saying that these men did not believe that there should be a state religion or that one religion was more important than another religion. They were all about freedom of religion and freedom from religion. The operative word for the founders was freedom.

A lot of so called religious people make God small, petty, and intolerant. Politics has always been a dirty business, but it appears to be getting dirtier every day. That is why politics and religion would not appear to mix very well. Religion is supposed to appeal to our better angels, but that is not the case today. The merging of politics and religion has not been good for the country because it blurs the lines of what is acceptable and what is not....

Crying out for just what, QC, for not doing his job as a pastor or politician?

This fellow should go home and take care of his own church--if he can, after running around one or more countries attacking his own

Brad Buser wrote:

Credibility is everything—to the pastor standing in your pulpit on Sunday, to the Iteri standing and speaking to the church, and to the Indian pastor who has now been elevated to a higher status by someone buying him a bicycle so he can travel to more villages. On the surface, paying him a salary so he doesn’t need to toil in his garden makes sense. But when his hands no longer have the callouses that he previously had, his credibility is impacted. I could go on in the ways that North American funds have backfired in overseas contexts.

So what is the North American church to do to make use of the resources available to her?...

Take note.

The Progressive on this board accused a man crying out for justice for martyrs of "whining." This will be the same charge levied at us for pointing to the First Admendment when our freedom of religion, assembly, and speech are further and further restricted. And he will say to us, "stop whining."

He ignores Scripture's call and example to comfort the hurting brother, even from his beloved Sermon on the Mount. Instead, "stop whining."

Beware, James. Those words may be said to you with authority should you point to anything but faith in Christ should judgment fall on you. "But Lord, I did..." "Stop whining. To the outer darkness now!"

Desperate people will do desperate things to try and save lives! Meeting with the President of the US has far better chances of bringing some form of aid to our brothers and sisters over there, then just shutting up, sitting down, and rendering human lives to a blood thirsty Caesar will!!

It at least increases awareness among private sector folks who can actually do more than just sit back and criticize and belittle.

“Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”

Chris GP, as I already pointed out, of the United States government, is doing all that is going to do about Myanmar. So whining to it is not going to do any good.Though, Chris, thank you for pointing out about the state religion of Myanmar. It seems to have the ills of all the state religions.👎

See item #7 especially❗

https://tinyurl.com/y6lvd2tv

The United States won't push the Myanmar problem any harder than it has because the US doesn't want to push them into the arms of the Chinese Communists. The United States is now somewhat isolationist, and we have a problem on our doorstep that we haven't done anything about, Socialist Venezuela. So, help that Myanmar or Hong Kong can expect from the United States, won't be much ❗

James, I am shocked at your rationale. Have you never read this passage?

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were killed for the word of God, and for the testimony which they maintained. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, Lord, which art holy and true! dost not thou judge and avenge our blood on them, that dwell on the earth? And long white robes were given unto every one, and it was said unto them, that they should rest for a little season until their fellow servants, and their brethren that should be killed even as they were, were fulfilled. - Revelation 6:9-11

The Lord Himself offers comfort to people such as this man. All you can do is label him a "whiner." Your label, sir, is outright libel.

Mr Lincoln, Myanmar,Burma as it used to be called does actually have a state religion. It is called Buddhism, and the Buddhist clerical authorities and monks, along with the military who run the country believe that everybody should be Buddhist.

They also persecute the many ethnic minorities, many of whom are Christian, who are not ethnic Burmese.

If you have your way, and the evangelicals all lie down and accept the laws that are being made increasingly in mad states like New York and California, the USA will have have, and already does in a great measure, a state religion, enforced by law, which is atheistic secular humanism, but, of course, with special privileges and exemptions for Islam, which alone amongst other religions, will not have to obey its laws.

Biblical Christianity, and to a certain extent, the strict Orthodox form of Judaism, will be especially marked out for persecution.

You cannot have it both ways. Socialism with its religious system of secular humanism will always lead to this.

Jim, if this man who represents people who are being tortured and murdered is “whining” about it, what are you doing when you blubber and boo-hoo constantly about universal healthcare?

It is whining when the facts are already known what is happening in Burma. What is he searching for contributions? Actually he what do just as well to complain to Britain since Mayamar used to be part of the British Commonwealth. In any event he's wasting his time in the United States.

US Department of Treasury wrote:
HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE IN BURMA’S RAKHINE, KACHIN, AND SHAN STATES
....
In Kachin and Shan States, the military has used many of the same tactics against a number of other ethnic and religious minority groups. Amid a long-running civil war in these states, the military has committed extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and torture against civilians from minority communities, including the Kachin, Shan, Ta’ang, Kokang, and other groups....

The US government already knows some of the things that are going on in Burma/Mayamar. The U.S. government probably applying all the pressure and type of pressure that it is going to at the present time.

Is calling a man a child’s name supposed to reflect his Christian Faith. It’s Saturday night, turn in and open your bible and pray for thanks you live in a country that won’t bust in your house, rape your wife, steal your children and take you out and shoot you like a dog . Then ask for mercy this doesn’t happen in this post Christian nation. Your god had not be your politics, or it will.
