Hong Kong Christians Call for Reform
Among the protesters in Hong Kong, many, such as Terence Lai, are prompted by their religious faith to take part in the demonstrations.

The 46-year-old community worker for the Hong Kong Christian Institute, a nongovernment organization, usually spends his time with low-income scavengers known as “cardboard grannies” — elderly female recyclers who sometimes run afoul of local sanitation laws.

Since June, however, Lai has worked to defuse tensions between protesters and police as Hong Kong’s pro-democracy demonstrations have become increasingly violent, at times meeting with harsh crackdowns by police.

Christians, like others in Hong Kong, are divided in their politics. But Christians in the pro-democracy movement say they hope to be a voice for peaceful change. ...

Why, Adriel, it almost looks like you agree with Robert Reich

"America’s Real Divide Isn’t Left vs. Right. It’s Democracy vs. Oligarchy"

In another article that I put up the URL in another thread, for I believe today
https://tinyurl.com/yxm366bl
yet the HongKongers would agree with you.

The business billionaires care a little about what type of the government is in Hong Kong❗👎 The Hong Kong students agree about the oligarchy but Hong Kong students also don't agree with the premise of the SA article here about a peaceful solution.

Many of the writers for the articles that appear on SA about Hong Kong, do not realize the Catholics and Christians are not the same. But anyway, for those Catholics who desire democracy and understand what it takes for a democratic government to exist welcome aboard❗👍

The VOA article that SA used is informative and worth reading.

It should be pointed out to Christians there that Christianity is not❗ just not another form of Islam👎

Sadly for the people in Hong Kong this is democracy against communism - And never the twain shall meet (or agree).

Both ideas claim to let the people speak (to effect) on the government of their nation.

But in actual history over the last century we can see that communism is about dictatorship by ideological tyranny. The whether you like it or not brigade.

As for democracy - Two examples of this is America and Britain. Where democracy can be seen as politics rather than leadership. Basically a mild form of dictatorship by an elite few - Not the people. Especially on freedom of speech or political persuasions.
The politicians motto is, "Include the term 'democracy' in your public speeches; - BUT never allow it to get into your politics.

However we should never allow the detail of the debate to get in the way of either type of despotic rule. Otherwise the peasants would be revolting!!!
