Tennessee dad dies saving 3 daughters from riptide in Florida
Fred Pepperman’s 16-year-old daughter got caught in a riptide while the family was vacationing near Panama City in the Florida panhandle, People reported.

"He did everything a dad is supposed to do," his wife Julie Pepperman told WTSP in Florida.

“Without him, three of mine definitely would be gone. It doesn’t seem real, Julie said. “I just want people to know a lot of dads say they would do it, and he did it, so that’s a dad.”

By the way, that was a beautiful poem,Adriel which I intend to have read by one of my children at my funeral. Will probably be our only daughter as she wrote her memories of her grandpa and read it at his funeral.

Interesting, Christopher because our family being from Alabama spent our vacations in different parts of Florida (before sharks started coming closer to the shore) and the rip tides are so scary. I was in one but closer to shoreline and I thought I would never make it back. That grandpa will never forget that and I remember reading that also, what horror that was for that family.

The point of the story is the self-sacrificial father who died saving his children. Sounds somewhat familiar:

By our own sin, we earned a death sentence. Some of us were swirling away in the cesspool of sin, breaking the laws that the Lord Himself estabished. But the Lord pulled us out by His own righteousness and His own sacrifice resulting in His death.

So the salvation process is revealed to some extent. Without Jesus, this noble dad will not live. But even if he doesn't, may the Lord use this situation as a means of pointing people to Himself through His Son.

Very true, 'Just..", like the guy who fell into the volcano. I'm sure that was not part of the expected tourist route, probably another case of Extreme Tourism or something like that featured in some strange cable TV channel or even more strange website.
You can watch beach cameras online and see when thunderstorms arrive with lightning strikes offshore, people are still staying on the beach. Do they think they are protected by being some distance away? Weather experts tell us that if you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning.

The biggest point in see in this story is the noble rescue because a disobedience to the laws...

Sort of an irony in the story really. Cities put up laws like two red flags for a reason. We need to obey the laws put in our country as long as they don't compromise our biblical beliefs. Another big one to me is speed limits. Massive amounts of time and math were put into giving roads (based off their curvature and width) a max speed limit. And people wonder when they fly out of control going 60 in a 30...

If we just obeyed these very simple laws a little better, we could avoid these horrible and tragic accidents...

"When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that once we shared
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the master plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know.
Laugh at all the things we used to do
Miss me, but let me go."

"I couldn't imagine a vacation being turned into a tragedy like that."

Hi BDF, a couple of weeks ago, a family went on a cruise together, on Norwegian cruise lines. The ship was docked in Puerto Rico, and was just about to set sail. The grandfather of little, 18mo old, Chloe, had her in a child's play area, and held her up to bang on a window, which she liked to do at her older brothers hockey games. Apparently, the grandfather didn't know the window was open, and as little Chloe went to bang on glass that wasn't there, he lost his grip, and the poor little girl fell out, dropping 11 storys, and landing onto the dock below. Passengers say they're scarred for life, and will never be able to get the mothers haunting screams, that day, out of their heads. I just can't imagine the familys grief, or the grandfather's inconsolable feelings of guilt. Tragic, tragic day.

Anyway, I was caught in a riptide in Aruba one year. Those things are nearly imperceptible, and before I knew it, the shore was a real long way away, and I began to panic, because I kept getting swept out farther and farther. I finally made it back by inching my way back at an angle, but it took quite some time and it was frightening, for sure. Riptide warnings need to be taken real seriously.

Very noble way for a true man to go down. Hopefully he was born again. However, his children should never have been in the water with two red flags being flown. They no doubt will have to deal with that weight of guilt. Some good friends of ours very nearly lost their ten year old son the same way with just one red flag flying. Thankfully his older sister spotted him just in time and all turned out fine. I couldn't imagine a vacation being turned into a tragedy like that.
