Facebook Bans St. Augustine Quote as 'Hate Speech'
The Director of Community Engagements for Massachusetts Citizens for Life claims that Facebook has labeled a quote by St. Augustine as hate speech. In a blog post, Domenico Bettinelli wrote, "Facebook has repeatedly banned a quote from St. Augustine every time I’ve posted it. And it’s not some fire and brimstone 'Sinners are going to hell!' quote, but in fact, quite the opposite."

Pulled from one of St. Augustine's homilies included in the Roman Catholic Church's official liturgical books, the offending quote is this:

Let us never assume that if we live good lives we will be without sin; our lives should be praised only when we continue to beg for pardon. But men are hopeless creatures, and the less they concentrate on their own sins, the more interested they become in the sins of others. They seek to criticize, not to correct. Unable to excuse themselves, they are ready to accuse others. ...

True.
Some of the most doctrinally affected clearly display symptoms of R.P.S.('religious personality disorder'), while all along presenting themselves as true believers, which kind can be quickly differentiated from the agitating trolls.

All the same however, the godly, in whatever rough stage they might be, can be promptly identified also.

What a great quote, Carol. And most sobering.

I remember reading about the statement of Jesus when he said to take up our cross, and one commentator said that in those days, the expression to take up your cross meant only one thing, you were not going home again, and you would shortly be dead, crucified. He said that to be a Christian we must do what Jesus said, and give up all right to our life, dying to self, dying to sin, living solely for Christ. It is the biblical way.

And what do we find in so many supposed churches of Christ? Enjoyment, entertainment, fulfilment, an abundant life with no demands.

Hi again. I wasn’t planning on coming back but I just got off the phone with Brother P. I didn’t tell him about my involvement on this but he said he was going to post on the first article. I think you all should see it.

Btw, John Yurich started this whole debacle by coming on here and posting a carnal comment about the length of the piano players skirt...why? What purpose did it serve except to defile others and demean the character of an unknown woman.

Okay Hello, you saw something but don't want to talk about it. That's okay. Let's not talk about it any more.

Meanwhile, I ought to just say that if Dr Tim had not commented on JY's post about the Sunday service he attended, and John specifically saying that the pianist was wearing a short skirt, I most certainly would have done.

Folks, if you are puzzled how apostasy comes about in churches, Dr Tim got it on the button. You allow your pianist to wear a short skirt. Next week, surprise, surprise, a woman preacher in the pulpit. The following week, the pastor resigns and a woman becomes the pastor. Next week, Hillsong music is embraced. Next week, false doctrines come in. Next week, join the Ecumenical Movement (World Council of Churches). Next week, accept Catholics as Christians. Next week, full apostasy.

You don't believe me?

So Living By Romans 14 is not living by Ephesians 4. LBR came on here with guns blazing, Hello, attacking me for saying something about the lack of standards in JY’s church. I was perfectly willing to let it go, but others jumped in and LBR himself kept stirring the pot, and now you’re doing it. If y’all really wanted the fire to die, you’d quit throwing logs on it.

Hello Hello (I always wanted to do that!)

Now then, you say "I certainly see the spirit that Brother P was talking about".

Firstly, I would like it very much if you would quote something from before LBR's post, where you "saw" this spirit. Either copy and paste it, or give the date and time and I will find it. Thank you.

Secondly, it does not take a newcomer to tell us that big fights have occurred on these threads, with such nastiness as to cause a large number to leave and never come back. But it is no different in many churches; that is what it is like today. I have left a multitude of churches for the selfsame reason: Ichabod!

Hello all, I’ve never been on here before
But I’m personal friends and coworkers with the Brother that you’ve been calling LivingByRomans14. He confided to me somewhat of the nature of an argument he had on here and I thought I would check it out. I had no intention of writing anything but some of what was recently said caught my attention. I have no idea about any of the ins and outs of the original argument. But I read Brother P.’s original post and would like to say to Dr. Tim, I can assure you he was not writing in a spirit of pride when he wrote it although he confessed he was getting angry toward the end of the conversation. I have known him since he was nine so I know him very well. His intention was exactly as he stated it.

LBR, you asked for scripture, so here it is. In your initial post, you claimed to know the intent of all of my previous posts. Hebrews 4:12 says that the word of God, and not a missionary, reveals the intents of the heart. Your remark indicated that you are able to discern what goes on in another person’s heart. Jeremiah 17:10 tells us that only God can do that. Your post showed a haughty spirit, and I’m sure you can use your concordance to find plenty of verses on that.
Now 99 percent of the people who come on here and say “Show me scripture that proves I’m wrong and I’ll repent” never repent, but instead argue about the scripture used not being “applicable” in their case. Let’s see if you do the same. Or leave in a huff. Or go on arguing after saying you don’t want to argue. Or...what? Confess that you have been wrong, apologize, and start over with a clean slate?

Christopher, are you accusing LBR of lying when he says, "I won't be back."?

Maybe he was saying it just for effect?

So LBR is saying, by interpretation, "John UK has insulted me and attacked me, and he won't answer my questions, and so to make a point I will say 'I won't be back' even though I know full well I will be back. And it is all John UK's fault. I want him to feel that, I want God to convict him of sin so that he repents."

Oh boy, I've seen it all before.

As I've said in the past, many, many times, if anyone has any grievance with anything I say, please quote it and make your point, rather than build strawmen (like, "he attacked me") which always leads to telling lies or half-truths.

The other thing is, if someone genuinely wants a question answered, they will not put so many questions into one post which makes it impossible to answer. That is nothing but a tactic, a technique for accusing the brethren, a devilish device.

I say again, if anyone wants a question answered, just ask THE question, not half a dozen. One question at a time is good to go, so lets have no more subterfuge and debating tactics to win arguments. Neither riches nor argument-winning will bring you any happiness.

Hi John, I have no clue what you're saying here about piggybacking, pretending I shouldn't say anything, or, that have a right to say what I feel, so go ahead and say it, when I already did...made no sense to me at all.

How many times has someone said they won't be back, only to respond to followup comments shortly after? Many, many many, so if those comments were intended to mean that I was posting too late, and waited until he said he wouldn't be returning, then that's a mistake, because I would have still just posted what I did, regardless of the leaving for good, comment. I believe he'll read the comments, but whether or not he'll choose to respond is another matter. Who knows, but he'll be reading them, I believe. I didn't end up posting yesterday, because I wanted to see how it all went before interjecting myself, and also, I was running short on time to finish up. Not all is always as it seems at first glance, so always be certain.

More in a while...

Christopher, he has already said, "I won't be back."

Why piggyback something someone else says? You have a right to say what you feel, just go ahead and say it. It is a free country still. Why pretend you are living in a communist land where you dare not say anything?

Anyway, it's too late now, he's gone, and he says he won't be back.

The missionary people I have met, do not muck about on social media sites, where they could get into arguments with backslidden Christians. They have better things to do with their life, such as saving souls from hell and death. And they have always been beautiful people, very humble, very peaceable, full of the Spirit of God, very trusting in God and dependent on him. These things come with the occupation, and without which a missionary will shortly give up, saying, "Maybe I misread my calling."

"Bottomline though is that the verbal lashings that go on here at times, borderline on a hatred for the person, rather than any true blue concern for the eternal spirit."

Very true, Christopher, and it reveals the pseudo Christian, although I wouldn't call it borderline, it is a genuine hatred, and two or three persons I have in mind.

...In general, I think your concerns are valid, and true, but there's also a time for a righteous anger when all else has been tried, and failed. Error needs to be exposed, and confronted, beginning with great patience, and the understanding that none of us were filled with all knowledge once saved. Patience is a gift, and characteristic that is sorely lacking, but we've all mastered human anger, which usually trumps everything else that Christ calls for, destroying any witness, and bearing rotten fruit.

Patience and understanding do have their limitations though, and when anyone has reached a plain of all-knowingness, has become the teacher, with nothing left to learn, or promotes clear heresy, etc., then they no longer deserve kind smiles, or gentle nudgings in the right direction, because they have agendas, and nothing more.

Bottomline though is that the verbal lashings that go on here at times, borderline on a hatred for the person, rather than any true blue concern for the eternal spirit. I see human pride, at times, and an angry vindictiveness, born out of a need to be right, get even, and fueled by great disdain, while using God's Word to get it all done. There are definitely some concerns at times, and the concerns I quoted from you are valid, as I see it.

Carol wrote:
John Yurich, the Scripture is our standard, and it tells us in 1 Timothy 2:9 “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety”..
If you noticed her apparel and chose to come on here and share with everyone the length of her dress ..?? It was immodest and she should have been taken aside by the leadership of your church and been shown her error and asked to put on something more appropriate or not be allowed to play the piano, as she was an occasion to cause brethren to stumble.
A very well made point, Carol, with scriptural example, which, being the word of God, shows us what God thinks about it.

The modern church does not seem to believe it matters what God says.

Of course, Sola Scriptura is a battle cry, not only FOR Protestantism, but AGAINST Roman Catholicism, which is why JY won't embrace it.

Of course, for all we know, the lady in question may have been taken aside by the church elders after the meeting and gently exhorted not to do that again.

*I typed this up early yesterday, decided not to post, but just changed my mind on it.*

LivingByRomans14 Wrote:

"I have been reading the comments on here for a long time and it saddens me how people that say they are christians treat each other...If I were not born again coming on here certainly wouldn’t give me any desire to be saved."

"I have no desire to get involved in the constantly ongoing war on here..."

Hi LBR14,

I agree with you, but with a caveat...

You have valid concerns that shouldn't be dismissed, and the same concerns I've had for quite some time now. To be fair, John Y, and certain things he's said over time, is the reason that Dr Tim approached his comment the way he did, but at the same time, I wouldn't judge the church before knowing how accurate those past comments even are.

I think the issue here is that when a certain atmosphere has continued on for so long, a callousness develops over time, and what should be shocking, and is shocking to anyone stopping by, is no longer seen all that clearly, because it's become the norm, to a degree, anyway. Then, when someone does speak up about the atmosphere, it's not usually received all that well, because, again, it's no longer seen all that clearly, so there's a certain backlash.

Continued.

To John UK
I’m totally at a loss. If I can’t get on with other Christians? You sir are the one who has attacked my character because I didn’t instantly fall in with your unsupported views.
Again you give me no scripture you simply attack me. I have tried over and over to get someone to show me why I’m wrong but you won’t. Even if those on here aren’t saved you will never find a biblical example of Christ treating them this way.
I’m saddened. I wish I could have found encouragement or at least biblical correction but I’ve found neither. You still ignore major portions of my posts while going after those that fit your aims.
I won’t be back. I wish you the best. No hard feelings on my part.
Have a great life.
