PCA Sides With the Nashville Statement Over Revoice’s Approach
Faced with more proposals addressing LGBT issues than any other topic, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) last night approved measures to affirm the Nashville Statement and launch its own study committee on sexuality.

The voting extended past midnight as pastors debated how their denomination could best clarify its positions, provide clergy helpful resources, and offer pastoral care for those raising questions around LGBT issues and same-sex attraction.

The decisions at this year’s PCA general assembly in Dallas follow months of controversy surrounding Presbyterian leaders’ involvement in Revoice, a conference featuring the voices of same-sex attracted Christians who affirm traditional beliefs around marriage and sexuality. The inaugural conference was hosted at a PCA church in St. Louis last July. Its second gathering was held earlier this month at another venue. ...

Thanks, Illnois. While I can see your point about particular lingo, there were umpteen overtures to GA regarding this problem of the Revoice Conference and its champions. If they were looking for one Overture to provide a solution, other than one to discipline everyone involved with Revolve out of the PCA, they weren't likely to do so with a statement of what is Biblical sexuality.

I too am a member of the PCA, having come to saving faith decades ago in a PCA church that no longer exists. I have watched with increasing upset at the PCA's increasing shift to the Left, driven in part by Tim Keller. While some have said that there still are men to stand in the gap, men like Harry Reeder and Dom Aquila, we are close to seeing the denomination slide off the cliff, and Morton Smith will be proven right.

There are more than one reason to vote against the Nashville Statement--particularly within the context of this year's General Assembly:
1. Some may view the statement's description of humans' being "in the image of God" at odds with the understanding expressed in the church's subordinate standards as "after his [God's] own image" (WCF 4.2; WSC 10; WLC 17).
2. There was another overture to adopt a report from a sister denomination (the RPCNA) on the same topic that is more thorough and provides recommendations for pastoral care--a task the study committee will likely undertake.
3. Some likely view the discussion of sin in the church's standards (particularly the expositions of the law in the Shorter and Larger Catechisms) as a better summary of the Scripture's teaching on sin.
4. Unlike the report mentioned above, the Nashville Statement provides little if any recommendations for pastoral care.

Notwithstanding, as a member of the PCA, we covet all the prayers of the saints for the church's health and the maintaining of a faithful witness.

There is a little more info at

While it is relieving that the measure was adopted, the vote was 803-541. Why did the 541 elders vote "nay?" Do they disagree with the Nashville statement or the process or both? Either way, a major fight is brewing within the PCA regarding the support of various kinds of human sexuality beyond the Biblical standard. Didn't happen this year. But a mere 300 different elders could have changed the course of the PCA. A few more Progressive youngsters and a few retirements are all they need.

Sad. Pray for the PCA.
