De Blasio shouts Cuban revolutionary slogan at Miami rally
New York City mayor and presidential candidate Bill de Blasio shouted a Spanish slogan associated with Cuba‚Äôs Communist revolution at a rally Thursday, drawing criticism in a city heavily influenced by exiles who fled Fidel Castro‚Äôs rule.
He later apologized on Twitter, saying he didn‚Äôt understand the history and significance of the phrase ‚ÄúHasta la Victoria, siempre!‚ÄĚ
Fresh from his appearance late Wednesday in a Democratic debate in which candidates pointedly spoke Spanish to appeal to Hispanic voters, de Blasio went to Miami International Airport to join cargo workers in the heavily Hispanic city. They are striking over what they call appalling working conditions.
