Ethiopian Evangelical Church Faces Closure Due To Inexplicable Noise Pollution Complaint
An evangelical Protestant Church in Ethiopia received an eviction letter on May 15th citing noise complaints from local residents after operating peaceably for 10 years, according to World Watch Monitor.
Mekane Yesus Evangelical Church, in Robe, Ethiopia, was ordered to vacate its building by Oromia Regional State Authorities within 30 days, and petitions by local members to officials have since been fruitless.
‚ÄúNoise from mosques and Ethiopian Orthodox churches can be heard throughout the day and even at night,‚ÄĚ an anonymous source told World Watch Monitor. ‚ÄúThis decision is nothing other than a display of animosity towards Protestant churches in the region.‚ÄĚ...
Who says the Makane Yesus Church is apostate. I think despite the African name, it is actually a branch of the Protestant Lutheran Church.
It dies not matter whether it is Lutheran, Anglican, Pentecostal, Reformed or Baptist, it has a perfect right to be there.
I believe this ludicrous decision has 2 motivations. The local government is concerned that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is being challenged, and this is the favoured church of the state in Ethiopia, and I think there is also a fear of offending the rather large Muslim minority.
I have seen a short video of a very lively Ethiopian Orthodox service, which sounded fairly noisy, and 5 times a day, the muezzin will call loudly and amplified over the mosque minaret, calling Muslims to prayer. Perhaps the local government there in Ethiopia might investigate these for nuisance nuisance as well!!
Is it like many of the "Protestant" churches in third world countries? Suffering from, https://tinyurl.com/jga4xcx (Charismatic Chaos)? Then this town still doesn't have a Christian Church but I for one support freedom of religion so they should have the right to function just like any other apostate group.
