Supreme Court upholds cross on public land in Maryland
A World War I memorial in the shape of a 40-foot-tall cross can continue to stand on public land in Maryland, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday in an important decision about the use of religious symbols in American life.

The justices, ruling 7-2 in favor of the cross’ backers, said preserving a long-standing religious monument is very different from allowing the building of a new one. The court concluded that the nearly 100-year-old memorial’s presence on a grassy highway median doesn’t violate the First Amendment’s establishment clause, which prohibits the government from favoring one religion over others. ...

Nowhere in the top of the hour news coverage on radio have I heard mentioned the town in Maryland--Bladensburg, which is too bad, because there is a lot of history back to the War of 1812.

https://tinyurl.com/yxmhgcsq (Why does God allow evil men like Hitler and Saddam to come into power?)
....
" God does not explicitly say why He allows evil men to rule. At times, God has used evil rulers to bring judgment on His people and bring them back to righteousness. It is worth noting that all rulers are accountable to God for their actions. For example, God raised up Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in order to punish Judah for their repeated idolatry (2 Kings 20:17-18). Later, after Babylon had fulfilled its purpose, it was judged for its own wickedness (Isaiah 13:19; 14:4). Their king, Nebuchadnezzar, suffered an individual judgment (Daniel 4). God did the same with Assyria, allowing its rise for a purpose, and then judging that nation’s pride and cruelty (Isaiah 10:5-19).

"God sometimes allows an evil kaiser, czar, fuehrer, sultan, or despot to rule, and the reasons for His choice are not readily apparent...."

Adriel, also we should pray that the supposed rulers of this country -- the voters -- realize they are beening punished for their greed, pride and hunger for power, and correct the mistake they made in 2016

Stop trying the substitute Rule of Law for the Rule of Grace! 👍

Only God can separate 'church' and 'state'
As Romans 13 makes plain.
"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God."

NO power but of God.

God is omnipresent even in the Governments of the nations.

Jim, I hope you are praying daily for President Trump.
That he will serve God's purpose well for America.

John of UK, it really depends on what part of the country you are in, etc. But most towns have plenty of Christian churches so one is always reminded about Christianity in seeing those buildings. One of the best ways of killing Christianity is mixing it with the government what's the Communist government of China is well aware of One reason that the Christian churches remain so strong in this country is because of the separation of Church and State.

The Supreme Court earned their pay on this one, because even though the clear majority favored keeping this cross, which was actually on private land and privately put up originally, the dissenters on the Court did point out the problems that government maintenance could cause.

No wonder the USA is so religious. I've never been there but I can imagine you can't go very far from your front door before being confronted with something to do with Christianity.
