Arrests of Non-Denominational Christians Continue in ‘North Korea of Africa’
Thirty Pentecostal Christians were arrested in the Eritrea Capital of Asmara recently, continuing a trend of government crackdowns on non-organized religion in the East African country that saw 141 more Christians arrested on May 10th.

The Christians had gathered to pray in an unofficial capacity in three different locations in the capital, and likely face beating, torture, and forced labor for deviating from Eritrea’s four state-approved religions—Orthodox Christianity, Sunni Islam, Roman Catholicism, and the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Eritrea.

“In Eritrea almost every Christian faces imprisonment,” an Eritrean Christian refugee living in an Ethiopian refugee camp told Release International recently. “It is like North Korea, but in Africa,” said another. ...

You’re right, Dolores. If the Lord doesn’t return soon, it is almost certain that Americans will lose their religious freedom and suffer persecution like that seen in other parts of the world.
Ladybug, in an earlier post on another thread I paid you three entirely sincere compliments that you apparently misconstrued as sarcasm. I’m sorry that your opinion of me is so low. Have a pleasant evening.

I was thinking along the same lines, trying. Pray for those in persecution now because it’s slowly beginning to happen here as well . Christians are under fire now and it is going to only get worse. We need to work while it’s still day before the night cometh when no man can work.

This reminds us to remember those that are in bonds and chains for Christ's sake..some suffering unspeakable things, and their faith sorely tested.
The reality is that we may be in the same position ourselves before long!

Even the 4 state allowed religions are under threat. The Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Church was effectively deposed by the Government of Eritrea and is under permanent house arrest, because he would not tow the government line, and the other three groups have to be very careful.

However, anything else outside the Eritrean Orthodox, Sunni Islam, the Lutherans and the Roman Catholics are totally banned.

The people of Eritrea are also subject to long term compulsory military service, which is ill paid, and effectively closed down all their normal business and family life.

This government in Eritrea seems to have set up a kind of state idolatry of complete and absolute obedience to the government. I remember when the province of Eritrea fought and won its independence from Ethiopia, many years ago, and I guess many Eritreans wonder if it was worth it!!!
