GarcĂa, the self-proclaimed apostle and leader of the Mexico-based church that counts 1 million followers, was arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles and charged with 26 felony counts, including child rape, trafficking and child pornography. California authorities also arrested two others affiliated with the church, and a third is at large.
The allegations sent shock waves throughout congregations across the U.S. Church leaders issued a statement categorically denying the allegations outlined in a 19-page complaint filed by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra's office.
Congregants at the church, whose name translates to the Light of the World, on Wednesday prayed for GarcĂa, and some became overwhelmed with emotion, said Anahi Medina, a longtime member of the church, who left Wednesday's prayer session about noon.
"We were crying," said Medina, 30. "Some sisters were talking in tongues. We...
"Members see their faith as the restoration of original Christianity, which they believe died with the last of Jesus Christ’s original apostles and was not restored until the 20th century.
Some critics have accused the church of being a “cult of personality” centered on its leader, whom church members call “the Apostle of Jesus Christ.” The apostle is frequently referenced during the church’s services and members have described seeing or listening to him as a transcendent, spiritual experience."
Interesting, because we don't normally see a cult being this large in number, and a cult is exactly what it is. I suppose the Church of Rome can be labelled as a cult as well, by definition. I think Frank has called it as such, and after looking up the definition just now, it sticks just fine. I never thought it did until today.
Anyway, when I read about this imposter, it reminded me of the pedophile, rapist priests, who would listen to confessions, bless people, consecrate the Host, and preach God, all the while doing their dirty deeds, and probably lusting while in the middle of church business.
Frankly, I'd be terrified that God was gonna strike me dead on the spot for such blasphemy, but we have one patient God, that's for sure.
Tragically another megachurch with a very charismatic leader with great claims. When a church centres on a man, rather than God, and supernatural “revelations” replace the Berean study and teaching of the Bible in its full context, this kind of grief is going to be the result!!!

Built like a multi-tiered wedding cake, its concentric white scalloped walls turn various rainbow colors during festivals. It towers over the city and is Mexico’s largest evangelical Protestant church.
Its pastor, NaasĂłn JoaquĂn GarcĂa, was just arrested Monday at LAX and slapped with a bail set at $50 million, the highest ever imposed by a Los Angeles County judge. Imagine if Mexico had thrown Houston megachurch pastor Joel Osteen into jail. That’s the level we’re talking about....
