Israel Folau's rugby union contract terminated for gospel
Folau released a statement on Friday evening saying he was "deeply saddened" by the decision, and that he was considering his options.

"It has been a privilege and an honour to represent Australia and my home state of New South Wales, playing the game I love," Folau said.

"As Australians, we are born with certain rights, including the right to freedom of religion and the right to freedom of expression.

"The Christian faith has always been a part of my life and I believe it is my duty as a Christian to share God's word. ...

What Folau believes and how he worships have not been challenged. Rather, he has been sanctioned for what he has done and said — not as a believer, but in his role as an elite rugby player representing Australia. However, can the two roles of "believer" and "contracted player" be so easily separated? That is the question at the heart of this issue....
....

This brings us back to the ethical core of the problem raised by the Folau case. Is it ever right for an employer to demand that an employee leave their conscience at the door? I think that the answer is no.

However, if the conscience of an employee should be respected, then so should that of the employer. No individual or organisation is required to be complicit in conduct that it sincerely believes to be wrong.

This is the ground on which Rugby Australia and GoFundMe have both stood. They have decided not to enable the propagation of views that they hold to be ethically objectionable....

This is well-written and very interesting article❗ Note the Ian Paisley reference! Read the whole thing ❗

Israel Folau's sacking isn't the end of this tricky story

Sport is to be commended for striving to uphold the best values of a modern society, but what happens when those values clash — the human right of sexual orientation versus the human right to freedom of religion?

"The expectation is that everybody is entitled to their own differing beliefs and views on all manner of subjects," Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle said.

"But if you are going to express them as an employee of an organisation, when you have signed a contract that clearly sets out the expectations of the values of that code, you must abide by that contract and if you don't, it is a breach of contract and your contract could be terminated."

Earlier this month Folau launched legal action with the Fair Work Commission against Rugby Australia.

When and where to speak in a secular setting can be extremely difficult, it is going to be interesting to see how the court case turns out

Israel Folau sadly does not believe in the Trinity and that Jesus is God..therefore not a Christian. One can see this on his current church's facebook page and google his name and Trinity to see some of history tweets.

Aren’t we citizens of two worlds?

It shows the wonderful product of the missionaries of 200 or so years ago, who at the cost of their lives and health often, went to the South Sea islands to preach the gospel, very often where there were even cannibalistic practices. Today those islands are solidly and evangelically Christian.
Many rugby players come from these societies, and stand firm in the faith, and they will not compromise to suit the decadent desires of Western secularist liberals.
Interesting reality

The first test case?

Terminating Folau's contract will not make this issue go away.

The Religious Freedom Review found that while there was a vast amount of public interest around these issues it was in no way matched by the number of formal complaints, "which shows that discrimination on the basis of religion is a little-used ground of complaint, as is discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and related attributes by religious bodies".

This may be sport's first legal test case pitting religious freedoms against the freedom of sexual orientation.

A "sticky wicket" for Rugby anyway.

Yes, and if you read the article, you can see many of the people of these islands are not happy how this fellow was treated.

He could still state many of the same things and use a nom de plume on a website. The Rugby Authority should let him do that and reinstate him.

In any event, we can hope that he can surmount his difficulties in employment.

The christian is not a citizen of this planet. Because we are followers of Christ we will be persecuted like Him.

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."

John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also."

When these persecutions become painful and difficult - Pray to God IN Christ and rely on the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26/27.

Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Proverbs 23:4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

And of course, I could go on and on about the issue of worldly success/wealth versus Christian service.

Folau, who spoke out against same-sex marriage after the Wallabies expressed support for the Yes campaign in 2017, previously said he was prepared to walk away from rugby if the situation became untenable due to his Christian beliefs.

Amen to the above and I pray the Lord will bless and guide this fellow.

Jim, not everyone is a christian (notice the little c) politician like you are.

His testimony, and his use of the word is no more different than when Phil Robertson quoted 1 Corinthians 6-9, ithis direct quotation slaps the unrepentant sinner upside the head. Paul reminds sanctified, blood bought sinners that they had been vile but now they were a new creation. If saved our struggle with sin is still present, yet putting on the Lord Jesus and making no allowance for the flesh is the race set before us. However it is said the world is still the men of Sodom in need of a savior but blinded by the god of this age.

Matthew 7:6
“Don’t give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

I certainly hope that he can find a way to return to his career. He's right in what he said, but perhaps more discretion should been shown where and when he said it?
